Important news for the #Saints : Pete Carmichael will stay as the offensive coordinator, source said. The team did several OC interviews, but came back to the best option being on their staff. More continuity in NO for coach Dennis Allen.

so 7-9 for the next 3-5 yrs

jim haslett 2.0

it will soon come out that gruden said no because DA said he couldnt change any of the coaching staff or players and wanted everything to stay exactly the same pretending payton never left.

DA thinks he can win by turning on the cruise control and everything will be just fine

The whole Carmichael situation has been very odd.

Didn't want to interview for the HC gig. Didn't want the OC gig, even though he'd been groomed for it for almost 20 years and was the obvious choice.

Saints interview a bunch of guys, now he's taking the job.

I kinda thought this was the obvious choice all along, and im not sure why it wasnt almost automatic like the promotion of DA was.. PC has been w/the Saints forever, and part of some of the most prolific offenses in the history of the NFL .

I can’t say I love this. I just wanted some fresh eyes on the offense. Feels like we’re just gonna resign Jameis, draft a guard in the first, a CB in the second and a Nick Toon clone in the third and run it back, going 6-11.

The saints will be better next year with Pete Carmichael calling the plays. I honestly thought he should have called the plays for the last couple of years under Shaun. The dude has earned this chance....

I hadnt heard that he didnt want the OC job.. i heard he didnt want to interview for HC , i just figured he was one of those guys who prefers to be behind the scenes, as opposed to a HC who is the ‘face of the organization .’

Underhill's take:

Can confirm that Pete Carmichael is remaining as offensive coordinator. The man who knows this offense best will now oversee it.

You guys can’t spend 12 months complaining about the personnel and then not acknowledge the role of that personnel in your evaluations.

Ultimately, the success and failure of the offense is going to be primarily determined by what players the team acquires.

Bill Walsh could call plays and if they don’t have better players than last year it won’t matter.

Carmichael will be fine if the roster is solid.

Pete called plays in the back half of 2011, in 2012 and some period of 2016.

That 2011 included the 62-7 beat down to the colts.

I think he’s the best man for the job and will still have some identity of Payton’s offense. And unless he wants to go back with Sean, he’s not likely to get a head coach job. Continuity with Pete calling O and Allen calling D is something I am excited about.

Yeah but it's weird that they put it out there that he was not going to be OC then said frick it, he'll do it.

To be honest, this isn't the worst option. Is there a QB in this draft that jumps out at you? Getting a good QB FA will cost you the moon.
