Humphrey chalked it up to poor preparation

So you're saying there's also a lack of preparation and motivation? That's another set of issues altogether.

The report is he lost a bunch of weight before the combine. But he only weighed 210, which tells me he probably let himself go after the season and gained the weight he ended up losing

If LJH runs 4.39 he goes in the top 10.
4.7 doesn’t get you drafted

When you look at LJH's background and skill set, he seems like he could be Eric Martin 2.0 if we're lucky.

Yea i agree, when I saw that we signed him, was thinking how good payton is at finding these undrafted guys, and expect this guy to contribute alot in evolving as a big physical receiver, Why didn't he get drafted just curious? Was his 40 slow or something??

Colston was 6'5” 225lbs, and ran a 4.50 and 4.55 at the combine.

Okay he is 6'4 220... Watch the highlight reel I don't give a shite about his 40 time. Too many people put too much stock in the BS. So what if someone can run a straight line 40 with no pads on, that really doesn't translate to the NFL. Anyway he boxes out defenders a lot like Colston did and is a possession receiver and there are some similarities there.

You guys do realize that he went back and ran in the 4.5's at his pro day, correct?

What he ran at pro day is hand timed. There is an almost automatic couple of tenths worse when you go laser. You have to compare combine to combine not combine to hand times or it makes no difference.

The guy has a legit shot to make the team's PS and perhaps more just on his catching alone. High points the ball, large catch radius and can win contested balls.
While his upside is limited I don't think his ability to make a team is.

What’s really funnny is he was recruited as a RB out of HS then moved

You can't put all of the stock in measurements and run times. Game films have to matter, and he has some good game film.

But the measurements are there for a reason, and outliers don't make it very often for a reason. His 40 time at the combine would put him as an extreme outlier to make it in this league.

His 40 AND the fact that he went undrafted. Not being drafted doesn't mean you can't be a great NFL player but it does say something about the odds of that happening. Man I hope he crushes it and becomes a weapon for us, of course, but I'm not gonna get over-hyped on this dude.

you don’t run an official 4.79 and 4.75 at the combine then come back and run a legit 4.5 at a pro day. You just don’t

If he really is a 4.5 guy, you’ll know it, bc he will be the 3rd or 4th WR on our depth chart before long

I agree that it gets overrated sometimes, but it does matter believe it or not.

Thousands of hard working, super productive college players that just don’t have the speed/athleticism to cut it in the nfl. These combine benchmarks exist for a reason.

He's garbage. All these texas fans are delusional. Dude might as well move to the oline with how slow he is.

He ran slower (4.82) at his pro day and was 13 lbs heavier

COMBINE 6035 210 32 3/4 09 1/2 78 3/4 4.75 2.77 1.65 33 1/2 09’11” 4.29 7.09 13

PRO DAY 223 4.82 2.69 1.65 - - - - - (stood on Combine jumps, shuttles, bench)

STRENGTHS: Large-framed target with strong, confident hands…impressive focus and finish on 50-50 opportunities and crowded catch windows don’t affect his focus…highpoints with timing and power to outrebound over defenders…adjusts well to back-shoulder throws…fearless working the middle of the field…runs through tackle attempts, absorbing contact and escaping the grasp…uses a quick jab or lateral cut to get corners turned around…first non-quarterback at Texas with a passing,
rushing and receiving touchdown since 1982…kick return experience…productive junior season (12 catches of 25-plus yards), finishing top-15 in the FBS in receiving yards.

WEAKNESSES: Slow by NFL standards – ran a slower time at his pro day at 13 pounds heavier than the Combine…doesn’t offer much route savvy at this point in his development…not a burst player (off the line or out of breaks)…takes a moment to gather at the top of routes due to his long-striding gait…questionable route awareness…not a make-you-miss threat and his broken tackles will decrease vs. NFL defenders…high percentage of his production came out of the slot…suspended for the 2017 bowl game (marijuana) and his immaturity was well-documented in Austin.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Texas, Humphrey lined up as the “H” receiver in the slot for the Longhorns, occasionally moving outside or taking snaps as a wildcat quarterback. He had a breakout junior campaign, becoming the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season. A high school running back,Humphrey’s balance and toughness allow him to keep his feet and pick up yards after contact. He secures the ball well and had very few drops on film, but those tight windows were often a result of his immature routes and ordinary separation quickness. Overall, Humphrey is a better football player than wide receiver right now, but he is strong to the ball with athletic adjustments and reliable hands, projecting as a “big” slot option who will find open zones and make plays between levels of the defense.
GRADE: 5th-6th Rou
