We all saw the contracts, the clock ticking and what looked like an opportunity at the end of the Brees era for one more “hayride.” And really but for the fraudulent call versus the Rams and some terrible second half typical Saints luck versus the Bucs we get two more Super Bowl appearances at the end. (One was just fricking stolen which will anger me until my dying days. )

Now we are going to have a pay a price, it’s time for a complete rebuild. I would rather suck for a year or two or even 3 and get better and be a regular playoff team again in a 3-5 years then just be mediocre and miss the playoffs year after year. Through pain failure and loss comes wisdom, drive, determination and success.

Failure isn’t the opposite of success, mediocrity is. We have been mediocre as hell for too long.

We wasted time wasting time. We could have started this rebuild already. Now we are deeper than we would have been 3 years ago had we done it then.

Very few franchises have not had a down period of 3 to 5 seasons over the last 18 years, meaning seasons of 3 to 5 wins. The Steelers and Saints are the prime example. Yes, Loomis swung for for the home run and had a couple of long outs caught at the wall. However, the fan base never had to endure a really down season until this past year, and that probably doesn't happen except for the incredible spate of injuries. They were in playoff contention until the last week virtually every season for 18 years. This board has been insuferrable since October . Imagine if we had to endure these seasons for half of the past 18 years. Maybe appreciate that Loomis had a big part of a lot of successes and quit looking at everything through the worst possible lenses.

Correct, Breas had been long gone. When he left we should have planned better. We didn’t; nor did we draft very well.

And it was perfectly acceptable when Brees was still here. Even giving Payton 1 year to give it shot with Winston in 2021. But after that it was time to bite the bullet, the 2022, 23 and 24 seasons where all a complete waste of time

But even that year after Brees, we had a real chance at making the playoffs. Covid, injuries, and a great rams' comeback prevented the playoffs. I can why they went for it again in 2022. The problem is the injuries haven't stopped. It's time to get rid of this core that can't stay healthy... Lattimore was a great start.

3-5 seasons is not necessary the teams that take that long are usually the shitty ones

It's about the last four years not the Brees CSP years. That subject is old and beaten to death.
The owner and the FO f'ed up with their plan of the years since.
Here we are with a old very average last in cap team.

Anyone with a football brain knew this to be the case. The arrogance of Loomis and Gayle’s head in the sand have set the course for this lost decade we are in.

The team was older and Payton left. You don’t have to burn it all down to start a rebuild just stop with the stupid contracts Trading up for Olave was a mistake especially with the cap situation and many of us said so at the time. Carr however was the death blow.

I agree overall, although I may have given Payton the year with Jameis to see where we'd go, but after that... reset button.

No reason to kick the can down the road any longer. This team isn't a contender. Get your house ie: financials and upper management in order, and rebuild. Build both lines and draft your franchise QB. Easier said than done on the QB but you need strong lines to help a young QB.

Brees will be in HOF before we even begin seriously finding his replacement.

The day Drew retired, Mickey should have started building our next Ferrari.
But he wasted so much time and money, now we have a four year note on an old V6 Camaro.

I mean, Eagles just won a Super Bowl with one of the middest QBs of the last 10 years.

That defense overwhelmed Mahomes, and he gave that game away.

Unfortunately, there is no way to be below the cap without doing that one more time. We could cut every player on the team and still be over the cap due to dead money. A few strategic restructures that pay out over 3 or 4 years will get us under the cap for 2025.

Fortunately, our cap space goes up rapidly in the years after 2025. Loomis' strong suit is accounting and I suspect he will get that done in a way that allows Moore a chance to get better players in short order.

I love when people complain about how insufferable the board or posters on here have been. Fans should definitely accept mismanagement and patronizing press conferences by leadership and keep quiet.

Moves could have been to lessen the blow since Brees retired. Mickey made baffling roster decisions and continually failed at drafting. That's why we are where we are. Hiring Allen as HC didn't help either, but honestly, if the roster was better, he might still be here too.
