When it comes to giving someone access to the nuclear football that can’t be held accountable for their actions in certain circumstances, I could see many independent men (and women) giving pause.

We use them. Cheap and easy from an employer standpoint.
From an employee standpoint I find it highly underwhelming. Reporting is terrible and investment buckets are very broad. It’s great for a small business who wants to offer a 401k but is being cost conscious. However at a certain income/headcount level I’d go with a fidelity or Schwab.
