It took cam Jordan 23 games to hit the 4.5 sack threshold

Trey Hendrickson 2 career sacks and has seen the same amount of snaps as Davenport

You're not alone. Looks bad, especially compared to how Hendrickson is showing out.

i'm way more worried about our OT's staying healthy than Davenport's development.

Clowney overated? I think he lead the nfl in tackles for loss the last 3 years and is near the top for pressures and QB hits. Is that not the sign of an elite pass rusher? Making plays behind the LOS and pressure on the qb???

As far as MD is concerned, Cam or Clowney didn’t produce until their 3rd year. Hendrickson is in his 3rd year so he’s a little ahead of him. And MD showed enough last year working over Trent williams and having a multi sack game against the Vikings to get the benefit of the doubt. Plus he set the edge very well against the run as a rookie.

He had 4.5 sacks last year in only 7 games.

If he had played let's say 14 games last year in the regular season and had 8 sacks...

Would we even be having this conversation.

I think people don't realize that 4.5 sacks in 7 games is pretty damn good.

YEP

And I'll say this one more time for the cheap seats... these stats represent the second best rookie season for a pass rusher IN SAINTS HISTORY. Only Will Smith had more sacks his rookie year and he played in all 16 games.

How that's not good enough for some of you just blows my mind.

It's because we've hit on so many great rookies the last few years our fan base doesn't know how to act when they're not an All Pro or Pro Bowler their first few years.

Davenport is still raw. He was learning so much and getting better last year until he got hurt and he lost his burst and energy because he was dealing with what should have been season ending. Not every DL has the arsenal to be a double digit sack guy right off the bat. Cam Jordan didn't. Hell even JJ Watt only had 5.5 sacks his first year.

This shite takes time you impatient bastards

But shite, I wanted a couple “god damn” moments

There were a few of those last year in that little 4 game stretch or so before he got hurt. The one that sticks out to me is in the Vikes SNF game when he held that guy up and literally ripped the ball out of his hands. He's still super raw. You saw flashes of great plays last year, but also there were times when you saw obvious rookie mistakes. It happens.

Can't remember which game but he ran down a running back in the open field. I was like holy shite.

Some humorless admin kept deleting the Volkosoby thread. I thought it was glorious, as is this thread.
