During his time in New Orleans. Do y'all think that he was a terrible QB or the only bright spot during the 10 years he was there?

He'd have been amazing with an actual team with talent around him. He was running for his life the entire time he was here. He was one of the only reasons to watch Saints football for a long time.

Most viewed him as a popular but imperfect quarterback. He was mostly seen as a net positive for the team and the city... there wasn’t much to cheer for most of the time back then, but Archie was indeed a bright spot.

This. Anybody who thinks Archie was a terrible QB doesn't know how terrible those early Saints teams really were.

Archie was the man. He had no line protection at all. Not at all. He got clobbered on every play. It’s amazing he can walk today. I can promise you Drew and Brady would be in body bags after one season playing with those offensive linemen. I know, I witnessed those beat downs.

Especially during the years half the team was addicted to cocaine

Archie ran for his life while with the Saints. That’s all I got.

Every time we played Newman, there was a line for autographs and he would sign damn near every last one.

this is the only correct answer ^^^^^^

he was good, not necessarily great but a damn good QB who never had a chance to be great because he was the only member of the team worth a damn.

by the end he was less about being good and more about staying alive. he was a lot like those games watching johnny manzel at A&M, he had to make plays all on his own while being chased by no less then 3 guys on every play

most fair minded fans feel guilt about ruining the mans career but we were glad to have him and he was the only reason we watched the saints back then

I think Saints fans view him as a hell of a quarterback who was stuck on crappy teams.

I remember he hosted a call in show on WWL with Cooper for a short time and people spent so much time gushing over Archie Cooper had to say on air, "When you call in please don't spend 5 minutes telling my Dad how great he was. He appreciates it but it takes up so much time that we need." The very next caller spent 5 minutes telling Archie how great he was and how bad he felt that we couldn't put a decent team around him.

I got to meet him and he was the nicest most genuine person I've ever met. I saw him a few minutes later and though I expected him to pretend he didn't see me he stopped, shook my hand and said, "Merry Christmas, Jebboy."

There is no doubt Drew Brees is a better quarterback but Archie will always be my favorite.

I’m not a fan of the Mannings in general, but I’ve started to come around in recent years.

Very talented with a horrible offensive line and defense year after year. Extremely loyal to New Orleans and its fans.

If history had been a little different, and Bradshaw had wound up with the Saints and Archie with the Steelers- the Saints would have been even worse, and the Steelers, instead of winning four Super Bowls in that era, would have gotten 6 or 7 rings.

You really shouldn’t call a guy retarded when he has THREE fricking letters in his name and you still can’t spell it right

You will have to show me a tougher guy to ever play for the Saints.
You will have to show me a more loyal guy to ever play for the Saints.
You will have to show me a more athletic guy to ever play for the Saints.

He was the target of all on so many bad Saints teams. He was sacked 340+ times in 134 games played with the Saints. Add countless other hits after or during the throw. Rushed 350+ times scrambling for over 2K yards.

He ended his Saints career with over 21K yards, mostly on the run with the OL of those days.

Today’s youngsters would be demanding a trade after a year or two.

How do I view Archie? I respect no other Saint, before or after more than #8.
