Did Mickey learn how to draft again?

Or is this all Kellen and Mickey is staying out of the way?
I still think 2026 may be too soon for playoffs but I’m stoked for a great season of growth as we start dominating in 2027 and beyond.

Kellen has definitely had a huge impact on both of his drafts.

Loomis has never run the draft as a solo act. It's always been heavy input from the scouts and the coaches with everyone coming to a consensus (but definitely feeling like he defers to the head coach so he can have the players he needs to run his schemes).
You could feel a difference between Payton and Allen, and far more so with Moore. Even back with Haslett Mickey actually was trading back.

Mickey is a vessel for the coach. Look at how each coach’s draft has differed.

It’s insane that Saints fans can’t comprehend the fact that Mickey Loomis has never picked any Saints players! Payton had full control. Smh

You can tell Kellen is having a lot of influence with his eagles/Howie roseman background.
Eagles and cowboys are two of the best drafting teams in the NFL. Clearly Kellen picked up some things

I’m kind of underwhelmed. Injury prone 1st rounder and a lot of projects.

Maybe it never was Mickey.
Maybe, and hear me out. Maybe it was Dennis Allen who sucked at picking players that matched what he wanted to do. Whatever that was.
And maybe, just maybe in the latter part of Sean Payton’s tenure he kinda lost it as well or maybe just dgaf.

Sorry your big board, put together after days of grinding over tape, interviewing players and conducting medicals, didn’t match up with the front office.

If Kyle Shannahan and McVay aren’t picking their guys the league is likely confused on who actually makes these decisions

I do feel like the past two drafts they've done better.
Sometimes the GM could step in and make a long-term decision ala Snead taking Ty Simpson. McVay could decide to hang it up when Stafford does. He's thinking long term.
With the Saints they continued to break some recent trends. No trading up and they didn't take a lineman first round. The Saints haven't had much juice on offense in years, so they had to face that fact and address it.
Most importantly the Saints might have the answer at QB with Shough, so they have to give him the best chance to succeed.

Or were Sean and Dennis the bigger negative influence on him?

You think this was a good draft? 3WR’s and a TE? When we have JJ and just signed a TE in free agency? This was about as stupid as Ditka and Ricky Williams.

Looks like two good ones in a row and it began with CKM.

I think it could be as simple as using your picks and not being over aggressive in trades. I think the Saints scouting dept is actually above average. The issue has been that they target specific players early that they had to trade aggressively for. That meant if the player was average or worse, you look like an idiot.
I think the aggression from 2021-2024 was trying too hard to make Allen successful as coach.

Sean Payton desperately wanted to appear smarter than everyone else by reaching for picks that were completely stupid most of the time . Occasionally they’d hit and he’d look like a genius. Most of the time he wasted F’ng picks

Youre definitely not intheknow..

I was so relieved we didn't trade away future picks to move up in the first round!
