Christian Clark's reporting on how shitty Griffin's tenure here has been, and how many in the organization have turned on him.

Griffin basically has no relationship with Zion and they don't really speak.

Zion showed up fat from the day 1 of summer league after we drafted him, and turned on the organization with how cautious they were over his knee injury. Showed up ever fatter to the bubble and we hid another injury at the request of his family.

Now the guy who's been fat for his entire NBA career, won't show up to any of the team's offseason workouts together, ghosted BI and Vinson in Phoenix, was in Vegas for Summer league, but didn't meet with his teammates and has no relationship with the front office.

I've said it before but it almost impossible for these past two years to have gone any worse. A fraud POBO. A franchise player who's been fat or injured for his entire time here, his psycho parents, and somehow less leadership ability than Anthony Davis. At least AD showed up to team workouts. shite is ridiculous.

This is just absolutely false, though. While the wins haven't been where we'd want them, we haven't had to trade any important players because we can't make payroll.

If Benson didn't own the Saints, and the Pelicans were on their own, they would be viewed as a first class organization based on what Gayle is willing to and has spent. The perception of it being a second tier franchise is just because they are the owners of the Saints, which is a bigger and more successful franchise. Trying to equate Benson to Shinn is probably the stupidest take I have seen on this board in a long time.

Players leave either because:

- They want a bigger market for endorsement purposes. This shouldn't motivate Zion because of his built in endorsement ability, but maybe he wants the better amenities bigger cities offer.
- They want a specific market a la Melo. I don't think this plays that big of a role from what we've seen.
- They want better teammates so they can win more - Zion is not likely to be able to force a trade to a team with as much talent and draft assets to keep building.

These kind of leaks don't happen by accident. Maybe Zion's distance from the team isn't about the team but about the Piano Man. Maybe letting things unfold from the sideline and watching Griff twist in the wind is how he elevates his Coach K approved, Duke Brotherhood GM.

You rarely find good teams with poor ownership.

And for all they have done for football, the Benson’s have so far not shown themselves to be all that much better than Shinn when it comes to managing an NBA franchise. They’ll spend more to a point, but they kept Demps far too long and fired the wrong person in the Monty/Demps power struggle, hired the wrong replacement and are now letting him sabotage their second generational talent they were gifted. Things are trending near the sewer in the Zion era and I’m not sure I’m clear Gayle has an idea of a way out?

Honestly I’m not sure what this franchise should do if the Zion stuff is real and seemingly near irrecoverable? Or Zion really is this immature? It’s probably still sacrilege, but if true, and this season doesn’t change his attitude completely, I’d honestly say trade him. Trade him for the biggest haul in history and hopefully third times the charm for the Benson’s.

I hope it doesn’t come to that, but if this season is either a catastrophe or worse, we make the play in and Zion is still acting like a child, it’s time to recognize reality and move on. Clean house, hope to god Gayle has learned enough lessons and they do it correctly for once

I'm not going to bother with it because its what you want, to argue incessantly for 10 pages.

You are wrong. Ownership is doing what they should do: pouring money into the franchise.

They hired the wrong guy in Griffin so obviously that is on them, but otherwise they are doing what they should do...let their hire do their job and give them all the money they need to do it, which is what they are doing.

Griffin's failings are on him. And if this is still a mess after the All-star Break, he should be let go.

That’s fricking unreal. Basically anyone can make up shite on a message board and within hours it’s made it around the web and they can’t even get straight where it originated.

And we wonder why people take horse pills and believe ridiculous conspiracies.

He was certainly a bit heavy handed, but I assumed eyeran was mostly just summarizing the article. And in fairness to him, Shamit said he basically nailed it.

Well don't quote me if you don't actually have anything that counters what I say?

This is basically the "I dont actually have a counter but im in my feels and lashing out."

I said multiple times IF, IF this is a catastrophe season and Zion continues to be toxic, or goes further toxic, worse if it is a successful season and he is still showing himself to be an arse and irreconcilable, you have to start considering the tough options,

And if that doesn't magically solve everything?

That is the place where my post is coming from. Removing the magical thinking and dealing with a possible reality that seems more and more in the cards.

Money is irrelevant when you constantly make trash decisions.

Your decisions have to be on point when you have an interior decorator as an owner & a bunch of football guys that have been on cruise control for 15yrs due to Sean Payton & Drew Brees

3 coaches in 3 years is a tell tale sign of having no clue wtf they are doing. And now the one real “basketball guy” is getting dragged and no one in the building respects him, from players to his subordinates

We've seen this many times before in the NBA. There are no words or gestures that will solve this. The common thread in nearly all of the bad situations that become good situations is winning. The team needs to win, that's it.

Phoenix's owner was largely considered one of the 5 worst owners in all of US Sports until basically a year ago

The reality is he is likely still a bad owner...he just hired competent people that have done a good job.

Gayle Benson is a good owner in the sense that she does the one thing an owner has to do: give the franchise money.

She has just hired the wrong person so far. We will see how the season plays out. If there is still turmoil, she will get another chance to hire the right person. If I had to guess...Langdon will just get promoted, which is a totally different conversation to be had later.

Jake had a stupid rant on his show today about the piano, and then he said later that it doesn't matter if Zion has a relationship with Griff, that they just need to win.

Which is correct, and what I said yesterday. It wouldn't freaking matter if Zion loved the piano and was now BFFs with Griff and went over to Griff's house every day to play the piano with him, because he and his family want to contend for a title and that is what is going to drive their decision-making process.

Lol yep

The piano is more than likely just a metaphor for how crap Griff has been and is relationship with Zion.

But if they start winning and are a legit annual contender starting in 2 or so years, we'll be fine. Maybe Zion still leaves, maybe winning an actual title is the only thing that keeps him here more than the next 3 years, but winning cures a lot.
