Winning is the main thing that matters.

But relationships do matter too.

If we are winning, and another team is winning, and we are both offering him the same but...he hates the management here and likes the management there, he's going to leave.

They don't have to be playing dualing pianos together at Pat O's...but they do have to have a working relationship, which by accounts they haven't even spoken in a year.

Man honestly I am just so done with all of this shite lol. I'm tired of the team, the front office, the media, all of it. I was tired of being full of hope before every season only to be disappointed in the end. Something happened in the middle of last season where I just said screw it and expected this team to be losers. So now with the start of the season coming, I fully expect this team to lose and lose often and just hope for the pleasant surprise and then eventually lose Zion.

Well, that's not possible, because we can always offer more.

As far as relationships go, I'm more concerned about his relationship with his head coach, because that's going to have more to do with whether or not he stays. And that's why the SVG hire was such a disaster and why Griff had to fire him.

If we want to be real, the media was always going to do everything in their power for us to fail. They were always going to pile on.

They did it BEFORE WE frickING DRAFTED HIM.

They were never going to give any GM we hired any time to build. If we didn't win from day 1, any GM we hired they were going to search for stories to rip him apart and denegrate us and make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not to excuse Griffin because he fricked a ton up and is a weirdo.

The media has let us know that we need to know our place. We need to basically not win the lottery ever again, and build a team extremely organically, and get lucky on a guy we pick 9th or whatever.

Fine bunch

They didn’t fire gentry when they should of. And the hiring & firing of SVG is just outright embarrassing

Ownership is clueless & they are taking direction by someone that should be fired immediately. So that’s that

I mean you KNOW I agree with that. I despised the Gentry hire from day 1 and you can pull the receipts, I fricking melted when we hired that bum. He is an awful HC.

The hiring is, agreed. The firing is fine because I fully believe that you should never believe in sunk cost. If you realize you made a mistake, correct it.

There's too much turmoil around Griffin right now to not at least consider severing ties.

The firing was fine absolutely

You can’t have that guy pick your next coach though lol.

If you fire Van gundy because he can’t gel with younger players, you need to reconsider the GM who your star player also doesn’t like. I’m sorry but that is just 2021 nba. Players run shite. The pelicans are not bigger than Zion

100% agree with this.

IF it is true that Griffin and Zion haven't spoken in a year, then you have to move on from Griffin and hope that Langdon in the top spot in the interim can repair that.

Benson/Lauscha have to realize the differences between the NFL and NBA.

In the NFL you can tell players to frick off. The NBA the players rule the roost and there is jackshit you can do about it.

We've seen this many times before in the NBA. There are no words or gestures that will solve this. The common thread in nearly all of the bad situations that become good situations is winning. The team needs to win, that's it.

We also have two examples where that didn't solve everything.

CP3 had perennial playoff teams around him and AD made his firm decision, according to teammates, the off season after we made the second round.

I'm arguing, we have example and example where winning wasn't the magical formula, and my point is, if either we don't even get that far, or if winning doesn't stop the momentum of a toxic fallout, then what? Firing Griff may solve things, and as I said obviously thats part of the steps you take before the next one, but there is increasingly a scenario where that isn't going to work either. And if Zion both refuses to alter his perception of the organization, and/or continues in this immature fashion, the option will have to be considered given how much leverage we stand to lose soon.

Exactly

Nothing about it is the same. And they haven’t adapted at all.

They let Griffin sell them on giving urban millennials Ted talks & making them read catcher in the rye. The frick is going on really

Jake had a stupid rant on his show today about the piano, and then he said later that it doesn't matter if Zion has a relationship with Griff, that they just need to win.

GOP is a Griff Stan(not a knock per se, he just believes in this FO and that’s his right), I wouldn't take it personally.

I listened to your all's roundtable this morning and I think you largely hit the nail on the head when you put your "rant" in the context you put it in. That stuff does matter and it speaks to what Clark's piece heavily implies which is it distills down the deeper issue with Griff's leadership style and execution of running the basketball program, and his inability to maintain trust and good relationships with the players.

IMO winning has the best chance to turn the ship around from the iceberg, but I don't think it's a guarantee.
