His comments about basketball culture don't ring true.
The Pels are in the top half of the league in local ratings.
In national TV games, NOLA is top 5 consistently. Sometimes the highest rated market that doesn't have a team in that particular game.
The organization has struggled, but it's not due to the local love of basketball.

Nola just isn't a big enough metro area to support the Saints and another major professional team that doesn't win consistently, mainly b/c of LSU.
Between a 73,000 seat Saints team, 100,000 seat LSU team, and a 10,000+ seat Pelicans, LSU basketball, LSU baseball teams, there's just a lot butts to fill in those seats in an area that just doesn't have the population to maintain that, especially when the team sucks arse.
Nola/BR is about 2.2M people.
Look at the other cities in that 2.2M and under range. None of them are supporting an NFL team and a 100,000 seat college football team within an hour of them, on top of 3 more teams that have 10-15K seat arenas:
Green Bay 325K - Only 1 NFL team
Buffalo 1.1M - Bills and Sabres, no college nearby
OKC 1.5M - NBA (OU nearby, no nfl team)
Milwaukee 1.6M - NBA and MLB (no nfl, UW an hour and a half away)
Nashville 2M - NFL and NHL (no one cares about Vandy)
Indianapolis 2.2M - NFL and NBA (Bloomington is an hour away, and only recently did anyone care about IU football and it's capacity is almost half of Tiger Stadium)
Kansas City 2.2M - NFL and MLB (and the Royals are one of the worst MLB teams in regards to attendance, and Missouri is 2 hours away)
CIncy 2.2M - NFL and MLB, not near OSU and university of cincinatti's football stadium holds under 40,000.
None of those area populations is have a major city nearby like i included with BR, and none of those metro area are supporting an NFL team, a NBA or NHL team, and then also a major university (one that has a huge football stadium, and will have 3 other sports putting 10,000+ butts in seats). None of those metro areas i listed are coming close to having to fill in over 200,000 seats in their stadiums/arenas. Cincy is the closest around 150k.
Pittsburgh is the only other city supporting probably more than it can handle with the Steelers, Pirates (terrible attendance), Penguins, and then Pitt's almost 70k football stadium. They are at just over 200k seats between all of them when you include Pitt basketball, and there metro area is 2.3M, and the median income in Pittsburg is around $75K compared to Nola's around $65K.
The only way for the Pelicans to get support is if they are winners, and even then, it will always be difficult to get butts in seats until Jan/Feb b/c of football.

It is a shame that the city/fans are the ones who get criticized when this argument comes up.
Every single time this franchise has had any sort of success, it has quickly come crumbling down to the ground.
The few and far between playoff appearances have shown that we do have a great fanbase. Blender is absolutely rocking in those situations....... however, this team can never build any consistent momentum to keep fans there.
The owner and her management group are a complete joke and have no clue what they're doing when it comes to the NBA. Aside from hardly winning, they've also stripped away fan perks/amenities and driven up ticket prices to keep loyal fans from consistently wanting to go.
I do think a new owner would absolutely go a long way in bringing NBA success to New Orleans. That's the #1 root cause.

He’s right with the criticism of the ownership. They are not serious about winning, much less competing for championships. We can’t even get above 500 consistently.
He’s wrong about the fanbase supporting a team. If we were a consistently contending team, we’d fill that area every night. How does anyone expect a fanbase to be enthusiastic about the shite they roll out. Do you think Celtics fans would put up with that bullshite?

Fans only go when the Pels are winning. Probably my least favorite argument for New Orleans being a basketball city is "If you win the fans will show up." That is quite literally the definition of a bandwagon fan base.
A basketball city shows up even when the team sucks, like in Detroit. Even when they were bad their attendance was near the top in the league. When the Pels are bad, the stadium is empty. Hell last year there were games where concession stands weren't even open because not enough people were there to justify them being open.

A more competent ownership/front office makes better hires, personnel decisions. At a certain point you have to get your head out of your arse and can’t chalk this franchise’s mediocre to shitty succes rate up to simply bad luck, it’s a trend.

Yes a better and competent ownership and front office makes boogie make that free throw and not tear his Achilles. Also Todd Graves probably makes Zion actually do his job and Ingram to stay healthy. Do I think the front office/ownership is bad, Yes. But we gotta call a spade a spade
