I know Jonas is gone although so could make a case that we won’t find a more talented C on the market this year without trading a lot of draft picks. Naji though is the guy you want coming off your bench that can guard 1-5 and has that dog in him. I actually think he can be had for a reasonable deal. I want change on this team but it needs to come from the top. Guys like Naji are invaluable. To me he’s like a cheaper version of Josh Hart. Losing him would put a big blow to this bench and then you’d have to find a primary backup for Zion because that’s usually where Naji played last year and he played well as a small ball 4.

We absolutely do. Just gotta agree to a number. He probably wants to see what his market looks like and hopefully hive the Pels a chance to match.

I’m definitely on board with keeping him for a reasonable deal.

If Herb is a $13 million a year player then I’m good with Naji getting $7-9 mil. I think that’s about where his value will be on the market unless some team comes and offers him $10+ mil a year which we can’t do. But I would have no problem offering him a 3 year $27 mil dollar deal. That lets him have security as well as gives him an opportunity to sign a 2nd contract while he’s still just 29 or 30.

Realistically Herb is worth more than that

The only reason I might not want to keep Naji is if we end up keeping Dyson...it's time we figure out what the guy can do. He needs all the minutes he can get...so I say we go ahead & throw Dyson in the deep end of the pool next season and see if he can swim...or sink.

As I've said before...I'm optimistic...on Dyson's future.

If they don’t find a blockbuster trade that reduces payroll some you probably can’t afford to keep him. If they do find a trade you probably can’t afford to let him go.

If BI is traded for a true pg, and we keep CJ, I’m thinking DD will be Treys backup so really no need for Naji.

What's the argument against Naji?

He was pretty darn solid last season.

If we let him go, what are the odds we replace him with a rotation player better than him?

The only argument for letting him go is that Dyson and Hawk need the minutes to develop.

I've seen enough of Dyson. He's a timid player with no threat on offense. Keep J Hawk and move DD. I personally don't like his game.

We're so traumatized by the shitty BI trade offers, now we're wanting Naji back.

Remember us wanting to save Willie from himself?

I like Naji but Willie needs to play Hawk and Dyson more.

If we dump BI for a big I think bringing Naji back makes sense.

Naji has his limitations but he's as good of a rotation caliber 3 & D wing as the Pels would be able to sign in FA. The only reason you don't keep him is 1) if you're too close to the tax, because you don't go into the tax to add that level of redundancy. Or 2) if a trade brings in more wings so you don't need him.

Dyson can easily be a triple double guy. I can see him being another Jrue. He was drafted for defense and playmaking but for some reason we aren’t using him to play point.

I like Naji. I wouldn’t mind him back at a cheap price. Teams need players like him.

But Willie might need to be saved from himself with Naji. He can’t help playing him in the worst lineups possible

I was a big Naji defender at his old price but it's hard to justify what his market value will be on this team right now.

With the Zion/BI(or trade replacement)/CJ contracts + Trey's new deal, we can't afford to throw around $7-9M for guys like Naji. He's worth that, but we have to replace it with young guys on cheap/rookie deals (like Naji until this year).

Agreed.

If we run it back, gross, I do agree that Naji likely isn't worth the contract value he can get... not enough minutes/need to develop the younger guys.

But if we move BI and don't add a wing in that deal, I do think there can be enough minutes for him and Dyson to get 20+ minutes a night.

Naji is a workhouse that we need.

No doubt. And his versatility is a big deal for us.

Agreed. We know defensively he can keep up with anyone. We've trusted him to defend 1-5, and even be the primary defender on last second plays.

He NEEDS to be able to go 0/4 in a game without being yanked after 1 shot.
