FO sees injuries as valid excuse.

quote:

"A source with knowledge of the Pelicans’ front office thinking made it clear that the rash of injuries is seen as a significant reason to give Gentry and his staff some cover and, eventually, a chance to coach this team once it gets healthy. "

They must enjoy low attendance crowds and pissing off our small fan base.

Great, I'm going to be an old man telling my son how we will never get rid of this damn 120yo coach because we can't ever get healthy.

For a guy so ridiculously good at PR as Griffin, retaining Gentry was a massive, colossal blunder.

Gentry could turn us around into a playoff team with a healthy zion and I wouldn't keep him.

If your system or philosophy or whatever goes to shite because one or two guys are out, then your system is not that good.

Maybe this is Griffin's way of tanking without saying it

I don’t think there’s anyone worth tanking for. This draft class seems kinda weak

I thought this was supposed to be the mega-class? Everyone kept saying that during the Zion draft... "top 3 or nothing, because this class sucks compared to next year"

I am trying to find ways to still like Griffin. He is 100% the best VP/GM whatever he is, we have had. Which shows how bad this organization is. Even when we get the right front office, sh*t like this always happens

rash of injuries?
Zion is hurt. Are we expecting a rookie to make us a winning team? Even Lebron only led the crappy Cavs to 35 wins as a rookie.
Favors is out under a different circumstance, and Jaxson has been playing just fine in the games he's missed.

Lonzo missing games is a good thing b/c he sucks. We are 2-13 with him. 4-4 without him.

Redick has missed 1 game, Jrue has missed 1 and Ingram has missed 3. Big whoop. Are Zion and Favors going to return and we are all of a sudden going to start playing .500 ball? I seriously doubt it. Outside of those two, Hart is the only one that has missed some time, missing 7 games.

I'm sick and tired of the complaining about injuries year and year after year. Every team deals with injuries every year. fricking deal with it.

The Suns are playing without Ayton, and Baynes has missed half the season, and Rubio has missed 5 games. They aren't 6-17.

The Pacers still don't have Oladipo, Turner has missed 8 games, Lamb has missed 9, Brogdon has missed 4, and Sabonis missed 2, and they are doing just fine at 15-8.

Kyrie has missed 12 games, Lavert 14, DJ 3, Durant the whole year, and they are doing just fine at 13-10.

So are Zion/Favors/Hart as important as Oladipo/Turner/Lamb, or Ayton/Baynes/Rubio, or Kyrie/Durant/Lavert? All of those trios are going to significantly make those teams better, and they are all already playing good basketball without them.

ENOUGH WITH THE INJURY EXCUSES!

This team has lost a lot of close games. I think a fully healthy Pels team, or maybe healthy minus Lonzo, is easily .500.

I think a big part of the frustration from fans with coaching is that most of us think a different scheme/philosophy probably could have managed the lack of bigs better. Gentry and the current staff definitely look terrible in this regard.

At the same time, the core scheme/philosophy they want to run is about maximizing transition opportunities, a style that should suit Zion well. I want to see what that looks like with a healthy Zion. It might influence who you target to replace Gentry, and they most certainly should replace him in the offseason.

David Griffin will go down as a legend for building up so much trust and support from the fans and losing it as quickly as he is currently doing.

"Jrue is an MVP candidate" "Alvin is a fantastic coach and we love what he's doing" yada yada

So Pels get healthy just as other teams embrace the tank. We close out the season with some wins against teams not trying too hard and drop back into the second half of the lottery.

Will be pissed if they use that as cover to bring Gentry back as HC next year too.

It's year 5 of Gentry. That's why fans are so pissed, the possibility that he could manage to survive yet again.

This...I really would have stood in front of a tank for off season Griff. In season Griff is MIA.

We went from full excitement to apathy in like 2 months.

The Pels led the league in games lost due to injury 4 seasons ago.

I don’t think they actually believe this. They just aren’t going to fire Gentry in season.
