Depends on what you think about his long term conditioning and effort.

I bet Portland wishes they had sold on Oden and Brandon Roy before both retired due to knee injuries. Doubly in Roy’s case because they ended up losing their insurance payout on him due to his abortive comeback a few years later IIRC.

Can you explain why it would be COLOSSAL? And if he gets injured and has same issues next year- would you still be on the record stating that?

Nobody should feel they have THE answer right now because there is risk and upside on every path. I'm not even sure I believe the "you have to keep Zion to contend" line of thought. Scoot would add one more high motor, hard working guy to the mix. Who's to say if they swapped Zion for Scoot + stuff they couldn't be a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" team with a bunch of high quality players rowing in the same direction?

“The whole greater than sum of parts” is probably what Griffin and his staff probably feel in thinking about trading Zion. Personally for me you have to go by history of players injury. Lets take AD for example, I know traded for different reason , but he played over 60 games most years for us but had annoying nagging injuries that pissed off the fan base. What happened after he got traded? Did those issues just disappear? Instead they got worse. Imagine if we kept him (sure Lakers wouldn’t have a title) but im pretty sure his value would be a lot less as well.

Apply that to Lonzo.

People were pissed we didn’t match his offer or hold up Chicago for more.

The risk of being stuck with an expensive contract for a perpetually injured player was always the counter to “We can always trade him.”

The fact Zion randomly went to Portland to rehab now this is really interesting.

He didn't randomly go to portland, Thats where Nike headquarters are, and they have a 1st campus, training facility, everything there.

And their owner is desperately trying to buy the Blazers.

It never made any sense that Graham was worth a 1st in a S&T but Lonzo wasn't.

No 1st, then the Bulls don't get him, and he's free to sign with another team. We had 100% of the leverage to the Bulls 0%.

Woj just said blazers shut down all talk in trading Dame this summer. Hmmm.

AD durability wise, even being older, looks like LeBron compared to Zion.

That was in reference to the Hornets pick the way I read that. I honestly think it’s between blazers and pels now.

Yeah, that's not a negotiating tactic at all... The question is will either team blink?

Depends how bad you want Scoot. Ball is in your court Griff.

Honestly its not over until the blazers officially pick tomorrow. Might not happen but this will go all the way till the end.

I feel like Portland shutting down Dame trade talk makes them dealing for a star like Zion, more likely.

Will come down to value. Pels probably want an additional asset like Sharpe or a future pick in addition to the Simons and 3 framework.

Portland probably already views Simons as an asset. They might even want pick 14 or more to pull the trigger.

Then of course Portland is also sniffing around Bam, Paul George, etc. Could be legit or could be for leverage.

Subject to change, but I think I think….. that the Blazers have had a deal lined up and they just need to be on the clock and ensure Scoot is still available. That does not at all mean it’s with the Pelicans of course.
