I thought that this was a helpful analysis. The TLDR is that Mathurin is not a very good fit, but the move isn't bad because the contract is good and we didn't have to give up anything to get him.

That's not what i'm saying. I literally laid out what more Trey could improve upon.
The more you're specifically asking for, isn't feasible, which is that they get better at closing games, which would mean creating for themselves in Trey's situation, and attempting a shot outside of a layup for Zion. Those are not "more's" that are going to happen.
At no point have I said Trey can't do more. Of course he can, but there's limitations to what that is.

and i've told you several times now that Trey will never be expected to close games for us in the sense that he would be expected to create shots for himself or anyone else. That's not a skillset he has, or one that anyone on the team expects him to do. It's just you with this "opinion".
And i've said several times that this will fall on Murray and Fears more than anyone else, which you did as well, but it's the part you left out of the quote above where you said Trey is expected to do this or we move on from him that was the crux of the entire argument from me b/c that was a silly thing to say about Trey.

What's silly about it? Have we or have we not been openly listening to offers for him this offseason? No one on this team is safe outside of Fears/ Queen. You could argue Missi is even safer than Trey based on need and return value in a trade.
If we don't look good next year and both Z/ Trey lack clutch abilities then there's an obvious path to move on and rebuild.

B/c getting rid of an elite role player on a great contract b/c he can't be an all-nba player closing games out, something that he's never done at any high level basketball he's played, nor is expected it to, is silly.
and of course you listen to offers, but that doesn't mean you entertain any of them. It's beyond stupid to trade Trey, for any reason. He is a starter in any lineup, and he's a starter that helps you win games. You don't get rid of him b/c he's not becoming Donovan Mitchell or Jalen Brunson. That's never who he was expected to be. He is who he is expected to be, and he''s really good at.
I said it before. if you want to trade Trey, then go ahead, but you better be sending Herb out right after it, as well as Zion. If you're going to go rebuild, then do it full arse. Don't half arse it. If you think you have something in Fears and Queen and you want to win, then Trey is the most untouchable person on the team outside of those 2 b/c he compliments anyone's game, unlike Zion. Why you think there's "offers" for him? b/c every team wants an elite role player like Trey, especially given his contract.

Zion has had 7 years to do this, and the hasn't. Move on. Trey isn't that kind of player, so expecting him to close games on his own is just silly. Can he knock down a 3 in the clutch? Sure. Is he going to take his man off the dribble to create that 3? absolutely not. Murray is capable of closing games. Hopefully Fears turns into that guy, and he has the skill set to do so. Hell DQ has a better skill set to close games out than Zion or Trey does.

We have tried to close out games with both Zion and 3M3 (when available) at Nauseum for the last few years with zero success. Both are negatives on the defensive end and if (big if) we throw Queen into the mix, we will have the worst defensive front court closing out games in NBA history.

Other teams have had like 3 months to offer him more than $8M. Most teams just don't have the cap space. Also, considering we consistently are the most injured team in the league, he is going to have a chance to be the number 1 or 2 option for at least 25 games this season. At worst, he's going to be a highly utilized 6th man for us. This is a great opportunity for Mathurin. Honestly, a great opportunity to make us more competitive as well. He's a dawg.

I guess it's too late to waive and stretch Hawkins or Poole. Both/either would get us way under the tax. But I think today is the deadline to stretch players..
