re: Ben Simmons wants to return to nba

This is one where I say, "Yes, absolutely if on a veteran minimum. It has "Low Risk -- High Reward" potential for whomever gets him.
He can play 1-5, rebounds defensively, creates for teammates, and is a defensive juggernaut (and has the skins to prove it). Simmons and Herb or Simmons and Murray would be the best defensive backcourt in the NBA and there would be no close second.
Plus, if they are seriously shopping Herb, this is a guy we need to 'test-drive'. With Simmons, the talent is there -- always has been; it's what goes on between the ears that he has to overcome.

It's all about optimizing our assets.

He has been 'Fool's Goal' within this organization since Day One. The Pelicans have thrown away useful assets (players and draft picks) while trying to build around a 'Trojan Horse'. Ask yourself one question:
WHAT DO WE HAVE TO SHOW FOR THE AD TRADE IN 2019 OR THE HOLIDAY TRADE IN 2020? >>>Jeopardy Theme<<<
The time is now, to move on from this 'Red Herring'. The problem is no one wants 'Him' (genuflect here), huh? So we find ourselves "SOL".
Do you have any idea what the team's record is since AD left and # 1 arrived? Who, in their right mind wants more of this. You can keep chasing a mirage if you want, but I'm done and the organization should be, too.

Sidebar: He shouldn't sniff the starting lineup on this team. The only way for 'Him' (genuflect here) to get there is like everyone else...EARN IT!!!

...something is different about this offseason with him. He's changed a lot of things he's done in the past and adopted new habits. I actually think that new management has made an impact on him. I'm hoping Mosely will as well. This is a contract year for him, so this should be his greatest year. I know we have said this before, but it really is now or never..
How many years running have we seen some variation of this quote? Seven years? Or is it eight? If it takes a contract year for 'Him' (genuflect here) to get serious about his job, deal me out.

Neither Matkovic nor McGowens 'out-suck' Poole (Peavy is likely less 'suck-ful', too) and both are certainly more complete ball players than several. And neither one is as lazy as 'Him' (genuflect here). But you know what they say:

PSST!! The return we got for Naji was nada, zip, nil, nyet, naught. He was signed by Dallas as a Free Agent since we couldn't use him here in New Orleans (LOL here) and management has misused our salary cap so badly. Heck, our highest paid player plays less than 50% of the time. Facts all!!!

Truthfully, the best use of 'Him' (genuflect here) is to play 'Him' (genuflect here) off the bench. He can't defend in space (actually anywhere), so playing 'Him' (genuflect here) against top line SF's is out of the question. Leonard, 'ANT', Lebron, Durant, Williams and Tatum would eat his lunch all day, every day (and have).
Yet, he's way too soft (and small) to play PF against the likes of the 'KAT's', the Davis', the Giannis', the Banchero's or the Siakam's of the world. His current defensive rebounding statistics, alone, already bears this out.
Let 'Him' (genuflect here) come off the bench and play against second liners in whatever manner they choose. Let more complete players play against top line talent and let 'Him' (genuflect here) feast off lessor players since we already know his worth against the 'Big Boys'.

The whole roster doesn't fit together. But regardless, you don't start specialists over established starters.
Since when were Queen and Fears 'established starters'? You can even throw # 1 in this question as he has still been available less than 50% of the time since entering the league; that's hardly an 'established starter'.
quote:
It's not just offense. They are just better players
Your definition of 'better players' and mine are vastly different. Wilt Chamberlain was an amazing offensive player; Bill Russell has 11 NBA Titles. So, who's the 'better player'? Our beloved Pete Maravich was as talented a basketball player offensively as you could find and, yet, he never won at any level.
It takes...

Murray

Queen
Those are our 5 best players.
This starting five would be a trainwreck defensively. Collectively, 3M3, # 1, and Queen would be, exponentially, the worst defensive frontcourt in today's NBA and perhaps in NBA history.
It amazes me how 'fans' only look at offensive stats to draw their conclusions on who's 'the best'. Offense doesn't consistently win in any team sport; you can only win if you play...........

They will still be bad, but if I had to, I would wager 'over'.
A full year of DM, maturation of the young un's, and a real coach who will demand defense are my reasons. A bounce back year from the 'Poole Party' (whatever that means) and a little bit of defense from 'Him' (genuflect here) would also be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

OKC will regret Lu Dort trade and take a step backwards
Kon Kneuppel (who I like a lot) has a sophomore slump
Khaman Maluach will be Most Improved Player
Celtics fall to play in team
Age finally catches up with Warriors, and they fail to make playoffs.
Herb traded at mid-year deadline
Poole has a bounce back (whatever that means) year
Zion only plays 53 games
Hunter Dickinson plays less than 25 games with Pelicans

That blocked pass the 'crept' through the lane from one side of the court to the other right in front of him was a beauty!!! I swear he was in freeze frame while the pass was in SloMo. He might be a nice guy, but he definitely isn't 'it'.

A pay cut, by definition, is giving up pay you already have or previously agreed to. Neither is true as he is currently on his rookie contract and will continue to be for the upcoming year. His Max extension goes into effect in '27-'28. So, he gave up nothing other than the right to negotiate for a SuperMax contract.

Noble? Yes, but it was still a record rookie extension.
Pay cut? As you said, he left millions on the table for the betterment of the team, but he didn't take a pay cut in the least.
