Okongwu is 6'8" and can't shoot.
He's a good player, but i don't see where he makes us better if he takes one of JV or Larry's place.
I definitely think he makes you worse if he has to take on JV's starter role/minutes. And I'm all for as many shooters as possible on the floor, but I think he's already a better player than Larry that isn't at his ceiling, even considering he isn't a 3 point threat.
I have a hard time seeing Griff dealing any vets on this team though. I think Larry's leadership is probably hard to measure with this team.

I'm not going to sit here and say he's better than so and so. I don't watch the Hawks. I konw guys can play bigger than their posted heights, but he seems undersized to handle Jokic obviously, but i'd say even for a guy like Nurkic and Zubac, and those are two guys you have to beat in the West.
And he appears to be taking some 3's now, and he's a good FT shooter, so it's not crazy to think he can develop into a better 3 point shooter.
If you can tell me confidently he can take JV's place and defend against Jokic/Nurkic/Zubac/Gobert, and i don't mean shut them down, just not get abused by them b/c of the size difference, Then yes i'd be happy to have him b/c i would assume he's going to be a much better defender out on the perimeter come playoff time when he gets switched onto smaller guys. and he's supposedly a good rim protector.
I agree.

I think Larry is damn good. His only issue is health.
When he's healthy and playing like he is now, I don't think we even have a C issue. It's just that he's always hurt.
I keep coming back to BI. We can't pay that dude. I'd love to trade him for a guy who's not an established star yet but is on the upswing.
Like the George for SGA trade. Who that guy is, I don't know.

I've said it several times, what is our problem at the 5? To me the anwser is the health of Larry. JV can dominate the right matchup, and Larry is the switching defender we need and also providing shooting. Zeller can hold his own if he needs to play for 3-4 minutes.
I'd prefer to just stand pat and see what happens in the playoffs, and ideally draft a 5 this year if the pick is right.

I think he's a better lob threat and rim protector than larry, while being more durable.
Larry is more switchable.
Larry's injury history scares the shite outta me

I think the problem is we have no way to protect the rim while also playing big. JV is a poor rim protector but he is big. Larry can protect the rim but he's 6'7 so we're smaller and can get outrebounded.
I agree that i don't see a way to solve that issue at this deadline. I would like Okongwu, he doesn't solve the issue i listed above but i think adding him as a long term replacement for larry is just smart business.

I think on the right team Ivey will end up breaking out to be a high end player.
If he stays in Detroit he won’t reach that though.

He's athletic, but he can't shoot the ball and doesn't create much for others. I'm not sure he gets there.

New Orleans Pelicans have interest in Atlanta Hawks forward/center Onyeka Okongwu a source with knowledge tells Scoop B Radio.
This season the 6’10 big man is averaging 9.2 points, 6.8 rebounds & a block per contest in the ATL.
I have always liked Okongwu and his switchability and defensive IQ would be huge for the Pels. I do worry about defensive rebounding with this team and a small center like Okoingwu won't help there.
However, the contract is great with 4 years at $62M and at 23, he has plenty of time to develop some semblance of an outside shot. Everything would depend on the price to aqcuire. If Atlanta is expecting multiple 1sts plus an upside young player, I would rather just wait until the offseason to see what Cleveland plans to do with their double bigs.

Atlanta will regret blocking Okongwu with Capela for so long
He will develop into a Bam-lite player once he starts somewhere and consistently gets 30+ minutes a game

I think everyone around the league just looks at our roster and says "duh" at this

Seems like if we're adding the Croatian, we probably won't be a player on any other centers.

Forgot to add that was per Jake Fisher, so someone that’s pretty in tune with the league

I don't get why we're bringing him over now. Why not wait till after the deadline to see how the roster shakes out and if theres any buyout guys.
I mean unless we're giving Karlo a 2way deal but i highly doubt that.

Could be coming over to be included in a trade also

Windhorst says Pels are looking to try to make a “big move” using Jonas’s salary. Also are willing to add Dyson to make a deal.
Hopefully we do something to shake things up, but sending out Jonas and Dyson may not be that “big” move we need.

This probably means Jarrett Allen. By the way Cavs got Mobley back and Garland is on the way. I think they may really want to move JA moving forward.
