He only has one year left on his deal. So, Dell should continue to tell the Nets that if they want a 1st, they need to take Asik. We could add a future 2nd to sweeten a bit, but that is as far as I would go for Lin.
This is based largely on Golden State thinking they lost Nick Young to us, but I think Demps had a deal in place to dump salary that fell apart. My best guess is Asik and a 1st for Lin was 90% done and then Toronto dumped Carroll and upped the price for dumping.

Yeah I'm okay with adding a 2nd to see if they'll at least take that given that's what the Raps gave up to move Carroll.

Compared to what our Bench is now, adding any 2 of:
Lawson
Rondo
Afflalo
Beasley
Moute
To me this team would be soooo much better

Problem is we are running out of suitors.

I just hope Dell is getting plenty of rest and exercise. These high pressure jobs can really affect your health

If we buy him out he gets the money now, correct? And then the cap hit is over 7 years? Couldn't that be motivating factor? Getting 17.5 now rather than 25 over 3 years and then still sign a contract in Europe and get paid there

His agent his playing hardball, naturally. Asik needs to tell him to stop and accept $17.5m...worth nothing Asik shares an agent with Quinn Cook

you're assuming he's healthy enough to board a plane.

Give me and rondo and afflalo and I'd feel very confident at pels playoffs chances

Cool, how do we get them when we pretty much can't sign anyone or we get hardcapped?

What we really need is a starter, not a bench guy. Moore is a good backup, not a starter.
We have got to find another scorer to play with Jrue. If Solo is going to be on the floor with AD, Cousins and Jrue in crunch time, someone else has to be out there that can either score on his own, or be a good enough shooter that his man cannot leave him.
For this reason alone, i'm somewhat ok with this lack of anything positive so far this offseason. We are not going to find a FA that can do this, at least not anymore, and we never had the money to find that person anyway. It's always going to have to come from a trade. But i still dont' get why you can't add a guy like Afflalo or Moute or Beasley in the mean time. They aren't going to prevent you from making that trade in the future.
I'd really prefer to get a PG. Reason being you can stagger the minutes with the new PG and Jrue, as well as AD and Cousins to where you always have a starting PG and C on the court pretty much all the time. Only play very few minutes a game where both AD and Cousins aren't out there, same with Jrue and whatever new PG.
we should have 3 different offensive schemes. One with all the starters, i'll assume Lin is on the team, Lin/Jrue/AD/Cousins, one with Lin/Cousins/others, and one with Jrue/AD/others. Really it's more what the offense is like with AD and Cousins together, with just AD, and then with just Cousins.
I can't see us being a playoff team if we have to play 10-15 minutes a game without both AD and Cousins on the court, not with this bench.

Lin has PO and might be expiring.
If they will go for KCP - Lin will be expandable. He will be reserve for Russell and KCP.
Probably they will prefer to net a pick.
I think the key to our chances is KCP

Yeah I think that's probably the case. They're so starved for picks after the Celtics trade debacle that they may be willing to take on a contract like Asik for a 1st and a 2nd. It's a slim hope though.

Are the Nets really interested in taking in a third salary dump?
If they take Asik, they'd have $40M tied up in rather worthless players for the next 2 years. You sign up KCP and you're at $60M, throw in the rest of the squad that is there for the next two years and they are right at $80M.
Is there plan to suck donkey dick the next two years, so they can get a top 5 pick when they finally have a pick in 2019?

Yeah, I really do not think the Nets are going to take Asik after taking on Mozgov.

What MM has been saying on twitter is the hold up isn't the Nets taking Asik, they won't, but Asik agreeing to a discounted buyout. Once they can stretch him, then a trade of probably Ajinca/QPon for Lin can happen as well as using the MLE and bringing back Cunningham.

That's probably their best bet. Good young players in KCP, D'lo, RHJ, Levert, etc... They'd have the Raps and Pels 2018 first round picks. Then they can land a lottery pick in 2019.

That makes sense.
he's owed $25M right. how does a buyout work? IS there a way to give him some of the cash he's owed and stretch the rest, or can you only stretch what is left on the contract? I doubt this, but i'm thinking something like Asik agreeing to a $15M buyout instead of $25M, and we compensate him some other way for the other $10. that sounds like it wouldn't be feasible legally with the CBA.
