So the noise around the town is that Butler really wants out of Minny

3 1sts + Diallo + Jackson? (salaries prolly don't match doe)

I don't give a shite how many 1sts it takes, this team with Butler can compete for a very, very long time

IF we could land him, Hill, Ajinca and 2-1sts, if we can get him to re-sign..

I believe he wants to go to the eastern conference though

how in the world you are giving up 2-3 firsts for Butler?

29 year old expiring player?

Better sign him as a FA...

how?
into cap space?

that would gut the team

looks like pels can get right at 20MM space if they revoke all UFA cap holds.
that ain’t gonna get it done for a jimmy butler FA contract

oh...and lebrony will have a max salary slot available (as will the knicks and a bunch of other teams). If the pels want butler they trade for him after January 1 and let his contract situation work its way out. anybody other than AD/Jrue and one of Randle or mirotic plus 1sts

one last thought...the twolves are in a bad spot. When they do the max extension for KAT they will really be in a cap twist going forward. A five year 30MM contract for butler might not be doable.

They’ll need to keep their options open with butler and he’s not going to like that

they will have plenty of trade offers to sift thru

MM said the Pel's dream scenario last season was OKC falling apart and looking to trade Paul George before the deadline. The risk of the situation and him not resigning after trading for him is what would have allowed them to have a shot at trading for him. I have to think they'd view Butler the same way.

I don't know if Butler is the 'dream' guy. Think about his fit.

Those who haven't watched him probably think he is a good defensive player because that is how he started out, but those days are gone. Offensively, he stops the ball more than he moves it and prefers iso's and mid range to the 3 ball.

Then, you probably have to give him a 4 or 5 year max to keep him. Jrue probably becomes less aggressive with Butler on the roster. I mean, you'd probably still take him if you can get him but give me the choice of Middleton or Butler and I take Middleton 10 times out of 10. I'd probably take Otto Porter over Butler too. But I'd take Butler over Harrison Barnes

This. While butler is better than guys like solo, he's a ball stopper. He demands the ball a lot, which is something you rarely hear about but watch his last year in Chicago and even in Minny.

Defensively, he's pretty good but he's not lock down any longer.

He's an upgrade, but you can't cap yourself out by trading for him and giving him a 4-5yr max.

They were ready to trade 2 1sts for Dwight if Cousins hadn’t fallen in their laps yet they’d think twice about Butler? I’m not saying you or your fit concerns are wrong, but I do wonder why you think they’re being smarter about things than they were just a few years ago.

My point with Butler was that I would rather sign him as a FA and not in a trade because I dont like the fit. I understand that this franchise will rather trade than sign FA. And that we dont have much capspace left.

Butler is 29. I dont see a team paying him 4-5 year max.
With a plan Pels can get to $25M. Probably wont be enough.

As to Howard trade. One pick was for value. Second one for dumping Asik. And we dont know what were the other parts of that trade. Maybe Pels were getting back a second. Also remember that it was mid 2016/17. So 2.5 years of Asik plus guaranteed $3M of another. TBC - I hated that deal. But it was a lot of Asik money.

Y'all are getting too cute by half with Butler's game/fit

His touch stats are in line with what Holiday did last year while playing in a vastly different system as a number 1 option.

To me, he's a superior version of Holiday. I see the wisdom in avoiding overlap there. Same time, these are two versatile, big guards. Not a bad place to overlap

Now, his mileage is scary. Giving him a max as he enters his 30s is a bad idea for any team. And hes got that junkyard dog in him which is great. But he's also sort of a prick- will he be willing to let Davis run the locker room? Will he be willing to step back some on offense? Very important questions

the biggest thing about him is that he DEMANDS a lot from his teammates.

I don't think its a bad thing since our team seems to put a lot of effort into practice and improving...outside of maybe solo(?).

If Butler comes here, its a necessity that he knows he's the 3rd-fiddle on this team. Be aggressive, but he has to be able to work with the ball movement. The cliché, "the ball has energy" is dumb but its how this offense works best. No more ISO BS.

I want nothing that would decrease ball movement. We need to keep that up to win consistently.

I do'nt think he could do that.

This is AD's team, and it needs to stay that way.

I love Jimmy Butler, and i'd love to have him for the last 2 minutes of every game, but i kinda agree that he's not the best fit. Of course i'd gladly welcome him.

I don't see Butler as one that would be maximized by playing with our fast pace. He wants to slow things down and play more iso ball. If the T-Wolves were smart, they'd try to implement more of the Triangle given Butler and Wiggins strengths on offense, and playing with a KAT. That's the type of offense that would be best suited for them.

I'd prefer Middleton or Otto for what we want to do, and they are more in line with the age of the team.

We are sitting here arguing over if we should get Butler, Barnes, Middleton or Otto, like there's some chance we can get them.

training camp cant come soon enough...

butler at least is the kind of star that moves/gets traded. he's got some say in where he plays going forward. barnes may be available but only because of his bloated contract. the wiz would have multiple deals to choose from if they offered otto porter, not just the pels' crap. and middleton will be going nowhere other than to the bank in milwaukee to get a bigger checking account

Our best bet to realistically land Butler (ha) or any star at his level, in my opinion, is to win big the first half of the season (top 4 seed) and Butler asks to play here as the wolves hover in the 8/9 seed range (can't see that)

I'd rather stay put this year and see what we have at point guard before addressing wing concerns. Payton and Jackson are two huge unknowns.

Minny is a complete mess right now. Can you imagine AD being 5th on our team in usage during a season he's averaging 54%/42% from 3 (KAT was)? We'd be losing our collective shite. I don't worry about Butler here. The alleged issues in Minny don't exist with this group of coaches and players. Can he find different reasons to be unhappy? Sure. I'd be bumped if Butler was the 3rd banana with Jrue/AD.
