i haven't looked at it in a while, but i'm pretty sure Miami is close to being a tax team, if they aren't, and their reasoning for wanting to trade Dragic is more to save money and get some type of asset for their future.
They know they aren't competing for a championship with the current team, but they have too much money tied up to really do anything.

I doubt they would do a trade where they take on the same money, unless it's a nice expiring contract. Can't see them taking Solo under any circumstance.
Ajinca/Moore works and saves them $4M this year, $9M next year.

In Pels media news, Andrew Lopez is replacing Guillory as the nola.com/T-P Pels beat writer.

Pelicans, with additions of Tyrone Wallace (offer sheet) and Darius Morris reported by @ShamsCharania, will be at the 20-player offseason max: 12 guaranteed, 7 non/partial guarantees (Wallace, Morris, E. Okafor, J. Okafor, T. Williams, K. Williams and Green), 1 two-way (Bluiett).

so there's a max of 3 roster spots available with guaranteed contracts and one more 2-way.

Getting Wallace at the minimum is a steal. He has a lot of NBA skill outisde of 3 point shooting

I’ve seen many say they shouldn’t match but nothing from the clippers saying they won’t

pretty good write up on julius randle's potential (as part of a 25-under25 series:

LINK

quote:

When I watched Julius Randle last season, I always found myself asking myself, “what is the optimal role for Julius Randle?” and at the time, I believe coach Luke Walton had it figured out: Randle, in a best-case-scenario, was a matchup buster capable of providing 20 to 30 minutes of average-to-above-average play. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to give the Pelicans that type of production either as a starter alongside Anthony Davis or off the bench spelling Davis and Nikola Mirotic or playing alongside both in a big lineup when the matchup favors it.

But Randle is still just 23 and won’t turn 24 until two months into the season. He’s so bad from distance and defensively that minor adjustments can lead to major results. Given the physical transformation he made a year ago and his incremental offensive improvements, he appears committed to hard work. Whether or not that translates into continued growth and versatility or he plateaus as a 4/5 with nice abs remains in the realm of an unknown future into which we’re all sucked, whether we like it or not.

You know what trade I think makes sense for both teams? Chieck Diallo for Tyus Jones straight up.

We need another a guard and Minnesota already has Jeff Teague, Derrick Rose, and just drafted Josh Okogie. They lack depth in the frontcourt.

kushner with today's wisdom tidbit:
quote:

A quirky 2017-18 NBA stat: The Pelicans led the NBA in scoring (112.2 ppg) from Jan. 4 to the end of the regular season -- 45 games. During that span, NO ranked No. 29 in 3-point percentage (34.3 percent) and No. 23 in 3-pointers made (9.3 per game). Pace.

quote:

It shows how much room for improvement there still is in the Pelicans' offense, simply by converting good looks. Starting Jan. 4, NOLA ranked No. 28 in converting wide-open 3s (no defender within 6 feet) and No. 29 in open 3s (defender within 4-6 feet). Has this been addressed?

quote:

The point being, the Pelicans have the system and pieces in place to be lethal offensively if they're able to add another reliable shooter on the wing via midseason trade.

mark deeks on potential in-season buyout candidates:
LINK

quote:

Come January, though, and trade season will begin. Between then and the trade deadline at the start of February, many a player will be on notice, re-assignable at the drop of a hat as teams change and tweak directions based on the changing information throughout the first half. And then after that, in the time between the trade deadline and 1st March (a key date for player eligibility; if a player is on an NBA team's roster at the end of that day, then that is the only team they can play for in the playoffs), some veteran players every season seem to get bought out, giving back money for the freedom to choose a team better suited for their needs, often going from a lottery team to a playoff team in the process.

Jeremy Lin, Atlanta Hawks
Kenneth Faried, Jared Dudley and DeMarre Carroll, Brooklyn Nets
Bismack Biyombo and Tony Parker, Charlotte Hornets
George Hill, J.R. Smith and Kyle Korver, Cleveland Cavaliers
Robin Lopez, Chicago Bulls
Wes Matthews and J.J. Barea, Dallas Mavericks
Marcin Gortat, L.A. Clippers
Lance Thomas, New York Knicks
Terrence Ross, Orlando Magic
Trevor Ariza, Tyson Chandler, Troy Daniels and Darrell Arthur, Phoenix Suns
Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert and Kosta Koufos, Sacramento Kings
Alec Burks, Utah Jazz
Ian Mahinmi, Jason Smith and Jodie Meeks, Washington Wizards

bunch of players on that list i'd think would help
