I was just about to come post about Beverley. I love defensive doggedness along side Jrue. Milos would be solid too and may relish the thought of “starting”.

Wes Johnson gives good depth on the wing. Would this allow us to keep our trade exception for a backup big?

Crewz,

Being that Teodosic’s contract becomes guaranteed July 15 think anything happens this week with him?? What is the front office’s take on him and Beverley? This is the type of deal that seems small on the surface but could pay huge dividends in my opinion.

I'd love to get Beverly for his attitude, if nothing else. Milos would be a solid get, too. I'd like his passing in this offense.

Apparently Doc's already in love with the young PG they just drafted so, yeah, you'd figure one those vets would have to go.

Not sure where Gallinari fits over there either. Assuming they start Gortat, Harrell and Harris, thats a really expensive 7th(?) man.

Yeah I like this. Allows you to fill the PG need while still hanging on to Moore and your first rounder to perhaps swing a bigger trade during the season.

You would still have the exception if you wanted to use it. And you'd still have enough money to spend without worrying about the tax. And you would have added three expiring deals, totaling 15 million in exchange for basically just Ajinca's 5 mil expiring. This can make a lot of different trades possible in January or February

No clue what the FO thinks about either guy. I know Dell loved Beverly in the past, but who knows now.

If I am Dell, I am trying to make the team better while also grabbing up expirings I can use in a trade. Doing a trade like this and then also using the exception accomplishes both those goals.

Who would you target with the exception of this were to be an actual trade?

Probably Ekpe Udoh or Jodie Meeks. They both fit in. Might even be able to get a top-40 protected 2nd for Meeks. Probably wouldn't be in my regular rotation, but always nice to have another shooter, and guys will get injured throughout the season. Poor man Etwaun Moore if he misses a few games.

I wonder if getting pat bev is possible. He fits what we need, defensive oriented pg who can somewhat facilitate at times and knock down 3s.

I guess the only issue is injury and the $

And then you got Milos, Wes Johnson, Meeks, and Miller all on expirings to help facilitate a trade in February. Mavs want out of Harrison Barnes, so they can chase and miss out on FA's the following year? Cool, here are Wes Johnson, Solo, Meeks, and two 2nds with some cash. You just opened up 12 mil in space next year.

Or Charlotte knows they will lose Kemba but aren't getting great offers because he will be a UFA. Cool, we will swallow that MKG contract and take Kemba, give you back Milos, Wes Johnson, Meeks, and E'twaun Moore. Maybe a top-20 protected pick if I want to be nice.

Point is: I can make much bigger trades if I set myself up now with bigger expirings, and I can do them without touching any of my core players (Jrue, AD, Randle, or Niko)

I'd love this roster:

Beverley/Payton/Frank
Jrue/Moore/Clark
Hill/Johnson/Miller
AD/Niko/Cheick
Randle/Oak

That's 14 so they can keep a spot open

I like it but I would get Udoh with exception to be 4th big. Id trade Diallo in a second if that is what it took

That starting lineup is a top 3 defensive efficiency team, and if you get Evil Jrue, an efficient enough offense to make serious noise. I'd be more excited about that lineup than I would bringing back Rondo + Boogie, though the ceiling is lowered vs. keeping Boogie and him getting back to ~95% of his old self.

ETA: Just took another gander at that team, and it actually has a pretty damned good bench.

Two of AD, Niko, and Randle will be on the floor for most of the game, so, in the "worst" case for most of the game, you'll have:
Payton
Moore
Miller (Johnson is pretty terrible, I'd have Miller ahead of him on the depth chart)
Niko
Randle

Again, I think that our ceiling dropped when Boogie got hurt/left, but that team would be loaded with guys that can play up-tempo. The "bench" is loaded with shooting. I'd love to make the deal that would create that team.
Who do I have to blow to make it happen. LOL JK! What I meant to say was "whom" to I have to blow to make it happen?

Yeah I feel like the defensive potential of that lineup, especially if Solo returns to his 2016-2017 form, would make Erman giddy.

Isn't Pat Bev's contract non-guaranteed this season? Same with Milos? Couldn't they just cut those guys?

Beverly's doesn't fully guarantee until January. But the benefit in the trade would be unloading Wes Johnson

Save for Milos, who has over 2 mil guaranteed, plus over 6 mil for Johnson.

If you could move those guys and only have to take back an Ajinca contract that hopefully gets covered by insurance and some cash the Pels give you, then you save a good chunk of money. Plus, you could get a 2nd for your troubles. The alternative is just cutting the guys, but then you still got Wes Johnson on your books and taking up a roster spot.

Crewz, you need to call up a Dell and tell him to call the Clips to make this deal happen...makes too much sense for both sides to pass up.

I would imagine the reason we haven't heard much else happen is because Plan A includes moves like these that require other people to make some decisions first.

No, I get it. I was being facetious.

I have wanted Beverley here for awhile. Like I said before, I love his defensive doggedness. He's a former All-NBA Defensive Player if I recall correctly and he shoots decently well from 3.

A starting 5 of Beverley, Holiday, Hill, Randle, and AD can match up with anyone in the league (including the Warriors IMO) defensively.
