If tweet fails to load, click here. So Trae wants Pels, but idiot Griff doesn’t want Trae.

Trae going to the spurs would be a fricking nightmare for us

Why pay full freight of what is being asked for Trae if he wants here?
The more we give up, the worse his team is when he gets here.
Edit - I also see the Spurs as a viable trade partner, which sucks for us, but I don’t see the Lake Show being one for Atlanta given what they have available.

The relevant quotes from Jake Fischer:
LINK
quote:
UConn center Donovan Clingan appears destined to be the next big man off the board, if he isn’t the top selection to Atlanta. Clingan worked out for the Hawks and told reporters he sees the potential for strong pick-and-roll chemistry with Atlanta’s guards. The Hawks, of course, are expected to engage rival teams on trade scenarios for both Trae Young and Dejounte Murray throughout this offseason. The Lakers, Pelicans and Spurs remain three destinations that would be appealing to Young, league sources told Yahoo Sports, and teams in the lottery are not discounting the possibility the Spurs could engineer a move up to the top slot, which could open the door for Atlanta possibly selecting Clingan at No. 4.
...There continues to be buzz about Dallas engaging multiple teams on deals that could offload Tim Hardaway Jr. to the point league personnel believe the Mavericks have a deal on the table — but one that would still bring back salary. Dallas needs to unload Hardaway’s $16.2 million for the 2024-25 season in order to pay standout wing Derrick Jones Jr. above the $5.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception. Should Dallas make a Hardaway move and still ultimately not come to terms with Jones on a return following his starting role in the NBA Finals, Pelicans wing Naji Marshall is expected to draw interest from the Mavericks, sources said, and the Pistons.
Word among team executives persists about Sacramento’s efforts to trade for veteran help with the No. 13 pick and some combination of Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes, but there have yet to be credible rumblings about any major deals regarding either Hawks All-Star guard, Pelicans All-Star swingman Brandon Ingram, or any other player of that magnitude.

Or ATL is goign to want to much for him.
If they were moving Trae, that means they aren't interested in bringing back BI, and they'd want Trey instead, and then they'd want the assets we can get for trading BI to someone else.
And if we somehow got Trae, he doesn't fit with CJ at all. I'd be ok with starting the season with CJ and seeing how it works, but you'd have to be ready to cut bait at the trade deadline, or explore moving CJ to the bench and staggering his minutes with Trae. They can't be on the floor together late in games as teams would literally score at will on us.
Could you trade BI to Houston and get back assets ATL would want, and have enough to send to ATL without including Trey?

Yes, with all the assets we currently have we can beat the Lakers or Spurs offers, and then sending BI out for a pick based package makes it even better. If Atlanta wants picks:
Ingram to 6ers
6ers 4 picks with 2 additional from Pels, Dyson and Hawk
Pels: Trae
That’s 6 1sts, 2 young players, and a 43 million TPE to take in salary and get even more picks. We could even add 2-3 swaps in with that. If Atlanta plays it right they could have the biggest pick warchest in the league. There’s plenty of ways to make a deal work to get everyone what they want if the GM is willing to put in the legwork to make it happen

You’re gonna see stuff like this come out about multiple players.
The key is to getting him is
1. If Trae demands a trade
2. Less suitors due to his contract
3. Griff feels his lack of defense can be made up in different ways
4. If Zion goes to Griff and if Trae’s agent tells Griff he wants to be there to play with Zion, you do WHATEVER it takes.
5. Most importantly, cost
The fans like us want Trae. I can care less about defense. Give me Trae Young on a billboard.
IF every one of those things listed line up, Griff has no other option. You do the trade. Whatever it costs (minus herb and Murphy).
Usually when chatter happens about trades the agents leak things about obvious teams.
I think Trae would be thrilled here. But I also see him fitting perfectly with the Spurs as one of their cornerstones.
Expect more of this to come out in the next 24h. Expect Griff to listen. But for Trae to come here, all five things need to align.
If Herb has to be attached to ANY Murray or Trae deal, you go with Trae. Could be posturing on Hawks to getting what they want. They hold all the cards. They also don’t have to do a single trade if it doesn’t benefit them.

Sounds like the unrealistic trade offers you see from every fan message board including ours.

He’s not going to the Lakers, if he was he wouldn’t have fired LeBron from being his agent.

Is Murray and Capela an improvement over Bi and Jonas? I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want the 3x 25 year old all star. Griff logic will always amaze me

I will leave for a minute with this tidbit..
Odds Trae is traded to one of the above teams (fantasy scenario)
Trae's preference = Lakers
Least assets = Lakers
Best chance at winning now = Pelicans
Best future = Spurs
If Trae got to choose and Hawks were loyal enough to give him what he wants (AD to Lakers)
Lakers=80%
Pels/Spurs =10%/10%
Lakers only hope of getting Trae would be a 3+ team trade. Pelicans could enter it for Murray.

I know people love Trae on this team, but I would hate all of this.
I hate this the most. Burning through everything we’ve built for a temporary high and guarantee of NBA purgatory.

The assets we’ve accumulated. I’m fine with making a big move, but trading an “AD like package” for Trae Young is fricking dumb

Going over and beyond to get a player that allegedly wouldn't mind coming here because we are not used to people wanting to come here is not how you should operate your franchise

He named pelicans as one of his destinations. I’m not saying we should overpay but we should also try to explore getting that player as extensively as we can.
When is the last time you heard an all star player on another team say New Orleans is one of my preferred destinations or even mention “not minding” to come here?

I’m good with burning our war chest if you can guarantee 2 things:
1. Trey and Herb stay
2. We get a good defensive rim protecting center
Rim protecting center (JA, Mitchell, Claxton, etc…)
Zion
Trey
Herb
Trae
Is a championship level starting lineup IMO

Lets see how this goes. But if Griff can keep Trey and Herb while getting Trae thats a massive win. I just don’t think Atlanta will give up Trae without getting Herb.

Good question. Though you hear rumblings about how teams like 76ers, MIA, Nets, LAC, GS, NYK all want to try and get Donovan Mitchell, PG, or even Bridges. You don’t hear any of those teams showing actual interest in Young. So maybe he’s not the player some people are making him out to be.
