Sure but Griff kept Willie as head coach and listened to him in regards to keeping certain players. The buck stops with Griff.

I guess that was my confusion.

You weren't confused, you just wanted to be a dick, and I was a dick back.

You were incapable of seeing that what i was simply saying is that the burden of a teams playoff success falls on a select 7 maybe 8 guys on a team, and the vast majority of that success falls on the top 3-4 guys, with even more on the top 2.
And Jose isnt' included in that burden for this team. Neither was Naji, even though Naji played well against OKC i thought.

You can argue maybe we should have a backup PG that can carry that burden, and i'd say sure, maybe we should depending on the roster construction at that time and the right guy being available to us.
But right now, backup PG just isnt' a position that is going to make a big difference to us with how our roster is constructed and the minutes that will be handed out to the main 7-8 guys we will have.

It's on Griff too.

Clearly willie wants his centers to play a certain way. So if you're Griff you either agree with him and get him the type of center he wants or you disagree with him and get a new coach.

Griff had 3 years to get Willie a center that he wants to play with. Instead he rode with JV for 3 years even though it's clear that Willie doesn't like to play him.

Would you say that? Is that what you would say?

I actually was confused. Because it seemed like a weird defense that didn't make sense to the actual statement. That seems to happen quite alot, that's why I was asking about it.

I was only being a dick with my 1st comment of "oh boy be careful of what you say about Jose".

Which was ironic because well here we are lol.

Of course.

I'll tell you why i don't care at all about the backup PG position on this team right now, besides the fiscal reason.
Murray is a PG that will play significant minutes, so there aren't many minutes left at backup PG as it is.
Zion and BI will handle PG duties at times, and so will CJ. Not b/c they need to, but simply b/c we'll run set plays that require they start the play with the ball in their hands and they will be the main creator of the play.

B/c of all of that, the backup PG role seems very minimal to me, and not very influential to the success of the team, even if it were a really good backup PG. To me the backup PG is likely to play more off the ball than anything b/c the way our rotations generally work Zion is in with the backups and he's the primary ball handler in that type of lineup.
An ideal backup PG on this team is one that pushes the pace off rebounds/turnovers, gets the ball to Zion, is capable of knocking down open 3's at a high rate, and plays good defense. I'm not looking for someone that can replace Murray when he's out.

Finding a center who can start should be the only priority this point. We have enough dudes who can handle the ball, but our only rim protection is a rookie and an undersized German

Two years ago, Jaren Jackson won defensive player of the year with 3.8 blocks per 36 minutes. Walker Kessler as a rookie had 3.7 blocks per 36. This season, Rudy Gobert won defensive player of the year with 2.2 blocks per 36. Kessler? Again with 3.7 blocks per 36.

Kessler career per 36:

13.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.7 blocks, 69% FG (nice)

Gobert last year:

14.7 points, 13.6 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, 66.1%

Obviously Gobert affects a lot of things on the court. Take numbers as you want. But just a good way to get a feel for the type of production you are getting from a 22 year old so far.

My assumption of current highest offer from the Knicks. “Two first round picks” that could both turn into seconds:

2025 first round draft pick from Detroit
Detroit's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027; if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Detroit-Houston, 11/24/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]

2025 first round draft pick from Washington
Washington's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-10 in 2025 and 1-8 in 2026; if Washington has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2026, then Washington will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Houston-Washington, 12/2/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]

and i'm sure Kessler can get taken advantage of in the playoffs just as easily as Gobert has his entire career, and he only costs $40M cheaper.

I don't care if it took 2 firsts to get Kessler. I'd make that deal.
I dont like giving up Hawkins and a 1st, as i think Hawkins has just as much value as Kessler does, but I'd do that. Matt Ryan can fire away 3's and play bad defense too.

“Could?” Barring the Pistons making a major turnaround I think both do.

The Wizards are fricking godawful right now and I don’t see them turning it around before 2026.

CJ and Kessler to Cleveland

LeVert and two Pels 1st to Utah

Jarrett Allen to Pels.

Would have enough money to fill out the roster and stay under the tax.

BI to Utah

Kessler and a 1st from Utah to Cavs

Allen and Sexton to Pels

That sounds better to me, and would motivate Cavs to do it because they save the money

The Cavs aren’t going to trade Allen for centers and picks. They love Allen and would be looking to get better. Would likely be looking for cost controlled 3’s and 4’s that can defend and shoot, while they move Mobley to the 5. Ingram would have been a decent option but they can’t afford him with Garland, Mitchell and Mobley. Think Jerami Grant, but he also is likely way too expensive.

That deal would give them the ability to do that.

They could do that trade then flip the 1st with one of their own or a few 2nds to Washington for Kuzma, and he gives them a cost controlled 4 under contract for 3 more years.

Or they can use that to go get Cam Johnson, there’s a bunch if guys they could likely get with a player and that 1st

We need to go get Kessler now.

His age and salary make so much sense for this roster.

You also wouldn’t need to rush an Ingram trade just to get a starting center.

Yea I don’t really get why Kessler is thought of as some mediocre asset. Can’t really make sense of why the Jazz even want to move him. He’s 22 and elite at rim protection and defensive rebounding. Unless they think he’s going to want a massive contract, I don’t see why he’s not on the no trade list for them
