Now there's reporting that Jalen Brunson is going to sign a 4/156 extension with the Knicks.
I take back my 4/160 offer for BI.

Teams would absolutely want BI for the same or less than a rookie max

Part of the rookie max is paying for potential.
Ingram is 27 now, he is what he is at this point and teams clearly don't like what he is at this point.

This would basically be a poison pill contract of sorts that we'd be giving ourselves. The Apron restrictions include Unlikely Incentives/Bonuses. So even if you say "BI gets $10 million if we win the title", that $10 million counts towards complying with the Apron, which this year means you'd need to be about $3 million below the tax threshold to comply with the Apron rules.

I wouldn't hate 4/160 if it was similar to the Josh Hart 3 year deal with years 2 and 3 being team options and year 4 being a player option. I doubt Ingram would sign it, but it is definitely the best offer the Pelicans should make.

If Ingram agrees to less money, I think he would only agree if it were a short deal like a 1 + 1 extension, which I think works for the Pels. They might be able to keep him if it works out and they dump CJ. Or it makes BI more tradeable down the line.

Trey Murphy is one of the most vertically athletic people in the NBA. Comparing him to Duncan Robinson is a travesty

The penalties for going over the apron won’t kick in until the end of the season right? In theory, could we resign BI to say $45M/Year, start the season as is, then flip CJ for a team who thinks all they need is shooting for a playoff push?
Like let’s just say Orlando looks great, Isaac, goga and Wagner are playing well, but they need more shooting help. Would flipping CJ for WCJ get us under the apron with no penalties in the above scenario?

How did they miss out on a guy that was and still is a free agent?
and i'd take Herro/Duncan/28 swap/29 1st for BI. Send Herro to Pistons for Isaiah Stewart and 4 2nds.
That would leave us with just enough to sign a minimum guy and stay just under the tax.
I know Robinson isn't a good defender at all, but like CJ, he at least gives the effort to try to be. I'm ok with that. They both suck, but they at least give the effort.

someone has to have the cap space, or a $33M trade exception to make that happen.
We can't just send out $33M and only take back $12M without someone being able to absorb salary. The only teams that might have that ability to take back uneven trades would be Utah and Detroit, and that's assuming they don't do that right now.

Ok, let’s just say we find a 3rd team and figure out a way to make it work to where we’re only taking back enough salary to get under the apron in acquiring WCJ. Does the apron penalty go away? I’m more or less asking “during which portion of the season are the tax and apron penalties finalized”
