Paul Reed is still out there and is a serviceable starter at the 4/5.

We get him and someone like TyTy Washington for little money and we have a roster set before any BI trade would take place.

Kessler- 1-2 1sts
WCJ- free/ 2nd
Isaiah Stewart- 2nd(s) ???
Mark Williams- 2nd(s) ???
Jack Landale- 2nd(s)
Paul Reed - free
Looney - free/ 2nd

Paul Reed or WCJ are to (2) no trainers here. I personally don't trust Reed to be our starting center. I'd go

Plan A: WCJ- best fit for cheapest cost

Plan B: Kessler- best fit/ price for decently high cost

Plan C: Allen- best fit/ worst price for highest cost

A Stewart trade would be hard without sending out BI, because he doesn't fit into the MLE with his 15 million salary.

The other could be signed or traded into the MLE or another exception.

Agreed if this dude is playing major rotational minutes we’re in trouble.

Requires trading BI to a third team b/c the magic woudln't want him.

Doesn't require trading BI. I like it. I'd rather go into this season with BI on the team.

They aren't trading him, and if they did, they'd need to get back a decent center b/c they have none on the roster except Mobley, assuming they were wanting to go with Mobley at the 5.

I do not believe so. Because of the Val S&T + Kira MLE I think we would have enough.

Pretty sure we can take back WCJ or Kessler without sending anyone out.

May be able to take both back without sending anything out but don't quote me on that.

I believe this is false. A poster pointed this out that its not possible. Maybe WCJ depending on his salary structure,

You can't combine TPEs.

We could take him into our MLE, but we can't use the full MLE right now because we're at 169.7 mill and the first apron is 178 mill. You can't go over the first apron via using the full MLE.

If there's no BI trade, it's looking like Kessler is the most viable option.

And Ainge just raised the price to Hawkins and 2 1sts.

WCJ makes $12M
Kessler makes $3M

We have 10 on the roster now and about $160M in salaries.

Missi can sign for anywhere from $2.6M to $3.1M
Veteran Minimum for Theis is $3.3M, although only $2.1M goes against the cap.

That would leave us with 2-3 roster spots to fill, and only about $5.8M to stay under the tax.

Even if we made a trade for Kessler, we'd only be able to sign 1 more minimum contract to a roster spot to get to 14 and stay under the tax.

Getting WCJ would mean we would we would be a tax team, and $1M below the first apron, which we are hard capped against anyway. There is zero chance of that happening, nor should it.

Couldn't we include JRE for WCJ to make the money work and then be allowed to add minimums to fill the roster?

Also this would mean Kessler + Reed would be a possibility depending on cost.

I'm getting:

Zion Williamson: $36,725,670
Brandon Ingram: $36,016,200
CJ McCollum: $33,333,333
Dejounte Murray: $29,517,134
Herb Jones: $12,976,362
Trey Murphy: $5,159,855
Jordan Hawkins: $4,525,680
Yves Missi: $3,193,200
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl: $2,196,970
Matt Ryan: $2,196,970
Daniel Theis: $2,087,519
Jose Alvarado: $1,988,598

12 players for a total of $169,917,491 right now with an estimate for Missi

Matt Ryan isn't guaranteed, but you aren't saving much by cutting him and signing another minimum.

There is an easy solution to these mental gymnastics with centers and salary cap issues. You trade BI and take a little bit of a loss but try to make your team overall better. I mean we’re talking about BI extending- I mean the team and BI aren’t even close to doing that.

Not necessarily. Teams also don't want to help us get a center or pay BI.

If we can show teams we have a plan at center and give BI an extension.... Teams will def start calling us again. Because they cant use "not having a center" or "needing to move other pieces" to their advantage. And BI would already have his contract.

Otherwise yeah I hope we trade BI before the season but if the value isn't there then you don't do it right now. Have to agree with that.

No.

We are hard capped at the first apron. We cannot exceed the first apron at all, so we are limited at what we can take back. Per Spotrac we only have about 9 million in space under the apron, and we have 4 open roster spots. We would have to send out significantly more money than we take back to make a trade like that.

And you think teams are going to buy that our plan at center is getting Theis and Reed? Come on man. You don’t think teams are that dumb right?

Or maybe, just maybe, the offers are low because no one really wants Ingram that bad.

Sure, they'll take a flyer on him for peanuts with the hope that maybe he'll wise up and change his game, but I don't see anyone dumb enough to pay him what he wants when his game is proven to be obsolete.

I'm not sure what Murray's cap hit actually is.

the FANSPO trade machine has him at $24.7, Hoops Hype has him at $25.2 and Spotrac has him at $29.5

I'd tend to believe Spotrac first, and if that's the case, then yeah we dont't have room to sign anyone else and stay under the tax, and we only have 12 on the roster.

Its the difference between trading BI to get a center and trading BI to get value for BI.

If we can somehow eliminate or minimize the "trading BI to get a center" talk and focus on just maximizing BI then yeah.

If Reed/ Theis hold their own and BI buys in with an extension then it will be pretty damn easy to move him at a very good value.
