Perfectly said.
I’m not going to trade BI just to trade him.

If he's still here then the plan has to be to take the ball out of BI's hands to force him into the off ball role he should be capable of excelling at.
His off ball movement is almost nonexistent. I agree this can work but its a lot of buy in and expecting him to be a completely different player than he has been for the past 3 years. For a guy wanting a max deal- I just can’t see him taking a lesser role.
I guess my whole issue with this concept is we’re spending half a season trying to build up BIs value even if that detrimentally affects other players (CJ and Trey) and positions on this team (center).

BI shouldn't have nearly as much choice in the shots he gets if he's still here.
The problem is that BI will take a pass for a wide open 3 and instead of taking the wide open shot he takes two dribbles inside to take a contested 2. Zion gave him PLENTY of wide open 3 point shots last season that he repeatedly passed up to take contested 2’s. I don’t see why having another guy that passes it to him the same way at the 3 point line will change his mindset.

Yep, Trey, Herb, and CJ were all able to raise their 3PAs this past year. CJ and Herb also had career high 3P%. All without a PG
BI somehow missed the memo
BI was the PG.
Anyone want to guess at who BI had the higest NetRtg with on the team this past year as a 2 man lineup, which was significantly higher than anyone else?
The only PG on the actual team......Jose.
and the year before....Zion, then Jose. significantly higher than everyone else.
and the year before that.....half a season of CJ led the way, the CJ that had the highest assist total of his career b/c he was playing PG for us.

I don't get this idea that BI can't move without the ball. He's not going to run around like Steph to get himself open for 3s, but that doesn't mean that we can't run plays to get him open looks.

So you’re technically saying BI has had point guards on this roster like Jose, CJ and Zion and still failed to shoot 3s and complained about not having a pg?
I mean halfway through the season we went to Zion at point, yet I didn’t see some massive improvement in his 3 pt attempts?

Watch the thunder playoff game. He can move but hes not quick off the ball- defenders easily stay with him. Thats a huge issue with him playing off ball. And this is apparent in other games as well- this isn’t just he was injured during playoffs issue. Hes just not quick enough off the ball.

No child, tha'ts not what i'm "technically" saying.
It's obvious that BI should not be the primary ball handler, and he's a better player when playing off the ball.
BI only played 9 minutes a game with Jose, yet in those 9 minutes the two of them averaged 6 3PA and made them at 43%, which was signficantly higher than with any other player on the team.
You could try to argue that it was Jose taking the 3's, since I can't see in the stats who's taking those 6 3PA, but BI has similar 3PA with Trey, Hawkins, and less with CJ, and those 3 guys shoot more 3's than Jose even on a PER36 basis, not just a pure totals standpoint.
I think it's pretty obvious that BI is taking more 3's when Jose is in the game.
BI with Jose had the best ORtg and best DRtg than with anyone else.
almost every stat is better with Jose for him, Ast/to ratio, TS%, eFG%, NetRtg.
You ever notice how BI always seemed to do most of his scoring toward the end of the 1st and 3rd quarter, after Zion goes out and Jose enters the game?

I’m not your child. I think you’re trying really hard analytically to make BI this productive 3 point shooter with a point guard. Yet you completely ignore that Zion is one of the most productive 3 point producing shots player in the league and BI can’t shoot more 3s with him.

Child- pointing out stats when you can’t tell me if its BI actually taking those 3s is just silly. You’re stating combined they are shooting more 3s but have no idea how many BI is shooting. This what I mean by over analyzing.

It doesn’t worry you that BI plays better with Jose (a backup point guard) than Zion(the guy you’re trying to build around). Whats the point of having BI if he cant play well with your best player?

I must have missed it, but Bridges resigned with the Hornets (3Y/75M). I would think that kills any talk about the Hornets wanting Ingram..

I'm simply willing to give BI a shot for one more year with a healthy in shape Zion and Murray, and I think you would see more 3's from him if he's not on the ball so much and asked to create so much and he can just play quick decision basketball. Quick decision basketball as in no one should have the ball in their hands for longer than 3 seconds or 3 dribbles in the half court, unless you're a pure PG, and he is not.
I know i'm over analyzing it, and it sucks i can't see BI's individual stats in the lineup tool.
But it's not a coincidence that he plays better with a PG for the last 3 years.
Zion is not a PG. Trey/CJ/Herb are going to take the same 3's regardless if they are playing with Jose or Zion at the point, or Murray. That's their role.
It most certainly does.
But BI played awesome with Zion last year, when we had a healthy Zion.
and he played awesome with him to close the year when Zion was in shape.

If BI will take catch and shoot 3s, this problem will solve itself. The Pels should be able to build a pick your poison offense and outscore teams.
Not asking him to initiate the offense will help a lot.

It's probably the worst position group in the league. Not just C. I doubt it's close either.
While I agree, the Center position is probably the least important position in today's game compared to wings and point guard.
We've seen the impact that not having a table-setting PG had on this team last season during clutch time, and Griff did a great job of solving that at the expense of the center position.
To be clear, I'm not saying the center position doesn't matter. Center is the one position where there are less than a handful of absolute star guys, and then there is a big drop-off in talent and expected productivity.
Most of the league has been relegated to selecting a center with a clear strength and matching deficiencies.
I'm ok with temporarily plugging the position with some stop gaps because we got our point guard.

What the huh? Lonzo was not what I would consider an "actual PG". He was more of a connector, and transition passer.
You mean he possessed some characteristics you want in every point guard. Lonzo was a point guard. Also, a PG who is a connector and transition passer is precisely what this team was lacking last season.

I get where you’re coming from. But for me I think hes had enough chances and personally I would rather give our younger guys such as Herb, Trey and Hawkins those opportunities. I’m not saying you’re wrong but I think its time to give our other guys more of a shot especially Trey.

And this is the point. Other than being a number one option what is BI’s role? I just think he hasn’t changed his game with or without a pg to fit into the role we need him to be in. Which is clearly a number 2 and now with Dejounte maybe a number 3.

Agreed. He played winning basketball on defense, passing and doing the little things. But if you remember what he was struggling with was scoring. I think this is the main issue for BI to be this great scorer he needs the offense to revolve around him. Now if he doesn’t care about scoring and is ok doing the little things to win- maybe it works. But I just can’t see him buting into this for the full season and being ok with the decrease in his scoring avg as well.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Per Keith Smith we have 7.7 million below the 1st apron hard cap remaining.
We only have 12 players under contract, so if we sign 2 more minimums to get to the mandatory 14 man roster we will only have 3.5 million in space to play with under the hard cap.
Pelicans are most assuredly paying the tax this season, I don’t see any way to shed money unless we make a lopsided BI trade before the start of the season

Personally, and I know some people will disagree with me on this, but BI refusing to adapt his game to Zion comes down to 1 thing, and that’s coaching.
Willie lets BI do what BI wants. That wouldn’t fly under Alvin or SVG.
As long as Willie keeps coddling him and doesn’t put his foot down, you will see the same BI you’ve seen the last three years.

It’s not sexy but at this point I’d be ok with Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, and 2 picks for BI.
Then sign someone like Davis Bertans to be the backup 4.
