Favors, Adams, JV. Griff has used more resources than most of us would have liked to make sure there is at least a serviceable starting center the entire time he's been here. I can't imagine his plan being to go into the season with no starting caliber center.
Right, as Teke said I'm fairly certain we could just take WCJ at any time if we wanted. I would bet some form of that Sacramento/Orlando trade that I posted on the other page is available at any moment if we want to do it, we're probably just looking for better options before settling on that.

Is that even legal pay for a 2nd rounder?

"He's earned this"
*Gives late 2nd rd a 4yr deal before he plays a game

$7.9m / 4 years is likely a little more than the vet minimum each year.
It may be legal but it is fricking stupid for a guy who played like shite in college.

Vic is still a top 20 center in the league and very willing 3 point shooter while being an excellent rebounder.

quote:So you would rather overpay for a center that is CLEARLY on the downside of this career? He is 34 (9 years older than WCJ) and will make double what WCJ will make the next 2 seasons. That smells of desperation to just make a deal to say you made one. Terrible.
I personally would rather him starting over WCJ, WCJ has a lengthy injury history and misses a ton of games. You have to have 2 starting quality centers if you go into the year with WCJ

If we are going to chase an expensive center, I would rather Ayton than Vuc.
And I don’t particularly want Ayton.

How am I overpaying when I’m literally getting him for free or maybe even getting a pick or some seconds to take him?
Again, in case y’all have some issues reading, do this until a deal for a guy you really want like Allen or Claxton shakes loose and then you have the salary to send out. Don’t pay for WCJ just because he’s available when you still have to go find another starting quality center because he misses so many games.

If you have to pay to get rid of Vuc at the end of the day, he ain’t “free”.

You wouldn’t have to pay to get rid of him, you would have to pay to swap him for Allen or Claxton, but you’re not paying to salary dump him. There’s a difference

Maybe a hot take, but Vuc is better than Ayton
In fact, let me list my order of preferences of centers that are attainable now or maybe by the deadline:
1) Allen
2) Claxton
3) Kessler
4) Okongwu
5) Capela
6) Stewart
7)Vuc/WCJ
8) Ayton
Vuc and WCJ are tied because WCJ will cost assets to grab, Vuc will not

What do you mean "pay" for WCJ? We aren't giving up a 1st for him lol.
We will choose WCJ, Ayton, and Capella before we even think about Vucevic...
WCJ/ Paul Reed while losing 0 assets is wayyy better than stuck with Vuc

The year after that he shot 39%
Season before last he shot 35%
He's not that guy anymore and hasn't been for 3 years now, for whatever reason, which is weird b/c generally the older those big guys get, the better they get from 3.
Besides the terrible 3 point shooting, he's an even worse defender.
There's not a whole lot of difference between him and JV, other than costing twice as much.
If they let go of JV, it's b/c they want a different type of player at the 5 going forward.

This.
Orlando has too many centers and is moving WCJ.
Reed’s on the verge of being cut by Philly.
Both of them are better players than Vuc and would be movable in a trade down the road once traded players and/or signees can be moved.

I would have just fricking kept JV for what he's being paid and figure it out mid-season with a trade or adding a better backup big than nance.

quote:You always seem to suggest a trade that assumes a 2nd, 3rd or 4th trade will be available. That is not how teams are run. You cannot assume you will be able to just get what you want later if you make a dumb trade now. Claxton just extended and we have tried for a while to get Allen. Odds are not great that they will suddenly "shake loose" when you want them to.

Overpaying is trading something for a descending player just to say you filled a position AND paying that player over $40 million guaranteed the next two seasons (at 34 and 35 years old). This team is clearly trying to get more athletic and gain a rim protector. He is neither.

that’s more than Alvarado makes LOL
Lebron last week: I’ll take a pay cut to help the team
Lebron this week: signs two year max with a no trade, extorts 2MM for his son

I dont understand the doom posts. What in y'alls mind makes you think that we don't have a plan and everything is just falling apart?
We literally have assets to do whatever the frick we want whether its Lauri/ Allen/ Kessler/ Al fckn Horford.
We aren't going to knowlingly go into the season without a center or a plan lol.
Especially aftwr aquiring Murray which was legit step 1 in a few move process.
We arent going to make a plan, do step 1, and then be like "ahhh yeah lets take a step back".
We already have our guy at this point, its just making all the salaries work and getting players/ contracts lined up. Geez

Hell, single easiest fallback is making Capela part of the Murray trade when it is finalized.
