I honestly only want to trade for 1 of Kessler/ Allen/ KAT/ Lauri. MIN: BI + 2-3 picks + Naji S&T Pels: KAT

This depends on what league year the trade occurs in.
Not that I think we’re going over the apron regardless.

Thank god, there would have been riots if Herb was traded in this deal
Herb is absolutely a core piece. He is non negotiable. I hope he becomes a vocal leader along with leading by example. I know he’s more reserved, but he can command respect with his voice easily.
Anyone that doesn’t see this trade as a win for the team is blind to how good Murray is. I watched a good bit of hawks this year as a degenerate gambler and can tell you he absolute can be a top assist PG in this league and he’s already got the most steals in recent seasons. Dyson provides more defensive switching opportunities on bigger players, but Murray is going to elevate Zion to the level we have desperately needed with a good PG.

Messi will not start day 1. We will trade for a center. He may not even see playing time early. It’s a glaring need.

Pels: GO frick yourself

This sentence from Will Guillory is key:
People in this thread have bemoaned that Murray only shot 36.3% last season from 3, but they are ignoring that Atlanta did not have a Zion to open the floor for him.
Murray is going to get a lot more wide-open shots here in New Orleans, and he's going to shoot better than 36% from 3.
quote:
Murray has been a below-average outside shooter for much of his career, but he made 39.2 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3-pointers last season

Herb Jones making First Team Defense solidifies his spot in the starting line up. How does McCollum feel about coming off the bench and playing more of a gunner role?
Can Zion play Center, (does he want to?) Can Herb play Center? Does Willie want a traditional Center? Can Yves give 15-20 minutes a night?
I think a KAT trade should be the floor for a BI trade but I’m hoping he signs a team friendly deal in this new market.

I don't even mind it even if his percentage is subpar as long as he takes the shot when with confidence when it's there. The shots you pass on is worst than a miss shot because you destroyed a good play/action leaving you scrambling for probably a worst shot.

It doesn’t matter how he feels, he has to. Willie has to man up and put Trey in the starting lineup.

We shouldn’t want either of those imo.

I would think so. My gut tells me he does, preferably an athletic one.

No.

We shouldn’t want BI back. BI is actually one of my all time favorite pelicans, but not having to give up BI for Murray puts us in one of the better positions we’ve ever been in. Instead of a “let’s see what happens” we can trade BI for a piece WE KNOW will fit, and most likely assets to come in with that piece.

And he WILL do that. From Will Guillory:
quote:
Part of the Pelicans’ motivation in making this deal was undoubtedly their late-game collapses that cost them so often last season. New Orleans was 14-15 in games that were decided by five points or fewer in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. During “clutch” situations, the Pelicans were 26th in offensive rating and 28th in turnover percentage.
They desperately needed someone to organize the offense and help them get good shots when the game slowed down.
Even though he may not have a reputation among the national audience as a big-shot maker, Murray has been one of the most productive “clutch” performers in the league for years. He’s the only player in the NBA that’s finished top-15 in “clutch” points each of the past four seasons.
This trade was a direct attempt to address that major flaw in this group. With the Western Conference being so ultra-competitive from top to bottom, a considerable improvement in this area could be the difference between fighting for home-court advantage or a Play-In spot.

lol. You think Griff had a choice like a Chinese menu? A or B?
Posted on 6/29/24 at 10:51 am to GOP_Tiger
One more key tidbit from Guillory:
quote:
Murray’s durability is an important part of this deal that can’t be overlooked. During his two seasons in Atlanta, Murray missed a total of 12 games. With all the injury issues that have derailed the Pelicans team during the Zion era, knowing that Murray can be a reliable piece that stays on the court only adds to his value.

KAT makes nearly $50M a year, we’d have to do a lot to make that happen and not go into the tax. Someone like Allen makes sense because the cavs like BI and Allen’s salary is way more manageable. Not to mention Allen is a really good defender and KAT is not exactly known for hustle.
We have plenty of offense, I think we need a 5 who can anchor a defense first and foremost

Also, I don’t like Zion as a small ball center when we have Herb jones who could be ideal for that role if needed
ETA: we need a starting center, I just mean in certain situations. Going into next year without another 5 would be bad news

Nope. Unless Ingram is traded, both Murphy and Jones are coming off the bench next season. McCollum is a starter next year, either here or somewhere else.
Only on this board would people believe that a 20ppg scorer that shot 42% from 3pt would be a bench player. He has started every game he has played in for 11 seasons straight. He's not going to the bench.
