Lonzo wasn’t good. We weren’t getting an all star for him. 2 good role players is about the best you’re gonna do

This board is full of people who are completely clueless about how sign-and-trade deals work and the leverage involved.

We didn't do the deal before the deadline because we weren't going to improve the team in the short run and we were still trying to make the playoffs.

Y'all think that Zion is upset? What about if we tanked and didn't even try to make the playoffs?

C'mon, guys. This isn't that hard.

We were hoping for a playoff push. They weren’t going to take a step back and end that push. We see how that turned out, and we shite the bed.

That was the reasoning.

Fair point, but like you said, it was ultimately a fail.

Sac got Vasquez for Tyreke. Orlando got Ayon for Ryan Anderson. I don’t think the issue is the return but the thinking behind not keeping Lonzo at an acceptable price.

I'm confident we could have done better than a backup PG and a 2nd before the deadline.

Seems we never had real interest to move him then, just cursory discussions.

This. But for some fans you can’t criticize Griffin until he’s run this franchise further into the ground

I’d bet money in two years his contract won’t be movable without having to give something up

Ding ding ding.

He's being paid still based mainly on potential. He's still desirable mainly due to potential. If he goes out and plays like he did the past two years next season and the next, that contract is going to look terrible. I'm telling you guys, having Lonzo on this team north of $20M would have been an awful mistake.

I highly doubt Zion is pissed. The guy said it’s up to Lonzo in what he wanted to do. If he told pelicans he really wanted to stay, he would. Especially at that price. It’s Rich Paul for crying out loud.

and the team was clear as day on that from the jump. he was not a priority, and they'd know better than we do about that

the end

bye lonzo (i hated you BTW)

It was a fail. You compound that by matching because Klutch would have pulled the same shite they did with Toní and that would wreck this season.

It’s a sign and trade. Lonzo wanted out

We got something for him. The other option is he walks for nothing

And frick paying that dude 20+ mill if he doesn’t even want to be here

That is such a horrible sign and trade.

Griffin misplayed his hand.

Right. This isn't about this S&T specifically, I know S&Ts don't net much in return.

But the same people saying we were never going to match were also stating it was good to not trade him at the deadline because we had options to keep him or S&T.

Well, this simply did not work out better than trading him at the deadline would have worked.

We didn't think Lonzo was worth $21 million per year. The players in the return don't matter unless they keep us from getting other guys.

Then trade him when you can get more value, not the value where everyone knows is the least value you will get, an S&T

How about the leverage of matching his offer? This is a terrible move unless we are able to replace him elsewhere this free agency

Not understanding this. Why is Griff bending over for Klutch once again when we have the leverage? They would have had to get rid of some depth and then wait 2 days for us to match. I probably match and trade him in a year. But whatever Klutch wants, Griff gives…

Another screwup by Griff….

it’s crazy how these emotional lesbians can’t fathom that. Now if we don’t get a guy like Powell. Then you can melt. Be patient
