My dislike for Chet aside, he is a good player and his body has held up a lot better than I had anticipated to this point. I do think he'd be a good fit next to queen and if you're saying we can go on to trade Poole, Murray and Zion for young pieces and picks, then I wouldn't be as down on the idea.
My gut still does tell me that he's one bad fall away from a career altering injury though and his contract is such that he'll be making $50M+ in a few years. That combination scares me. I would just prefer something that gets us more future 1st round picks down the line while taking on more low risk contracts that expire sooner. If that is possible
It also doesn't help that the Spurs seem on track to dominate the league for the next decade

To me, trading Trey and NOT trading Zion, Dejounte, Herb, etc makes very little sense.
Trey is a very good young player on a great contract that fits really well with Zion, and we still haven't won shite.
So unless you're trading for vets or young players that you also think fit well with Zion to win now...it makes no sense.
If you're trading Trey, you really should be looking at deals for Zion and Dejounte too

I'm not devaluing Trey. I am simply properly identifying the type of player he is. For some reason you equate that to me devaluing him.
There's a reason pretty much every team in the league wants Trey, as well as Herb. They have tons of value, and that is largely b/c they are being compensated at a level that is consistent with their production as a role player. If Trey was making $40M/yr like OG or Bane, then there wouldn't be multiple playoff teams banging down our door to get him. Trey is right there with OG and Bane, and both of them are a bit better than him (OG the much better defender and Bane a better scorer), but Trey's value in a trade should be higher than both of those guys recent trades b/c Trey is making $27M/yr instead of $40M/yr while giving similar production on the court.
OG was traded for RJ Barrett and Quickly
Bane was traded for Cole Anthony, KCP, and 4 unprotected firsts, one of which was #16 last year, and this years pick is #16 as well.
Chet and #17 for Trey is fair value to me, although i doubt Sam Presti feels that way. Chet is making $41M/yr next year, and it increases by about $3M/yr for the next 5 years. that's way too much for him compared to what Trey gives a team at his salary.
There's no way OKC is going to pay SGA/JWilliams/Chet all $40M/yr, and then bring back Hartenstein at $30M. And SGA's salary rockets to $60M after next year.
Any other trade of Trey better have us getting back at least 4 firsts, and 1 of them better be top 16 this year.
I think it's stupid to be trading Trey though. Trade Zion instead.
I also think it's interesting that the reports are he'll be traded in the next 3 weeks, meaning its a trade that's wanting to be done before this fiscal nba season ends. There's obviously specific teams with salary issues next year that would make the trade more difficult, so they are wanting to get it done this year.

I'd love to trade Zion. Honestly, return isn't even that important at this point. He's maxed out and we won't go anywhere with him.

What we SHOULD be doing is tearing it down to build around Fears/Queen. Everyone on the table and get the best deals you can without taking on any terrible contracts, unless a team compensates you for taking on contracts. Young players, picks etc
But we are not gonna do that

If I'm the Pels FO I'm trying to get Chet and the 12th pick from OKC

If you're rebuilding, then you would absolutely want to take on bad contracts if it means you get more assets b/c you're taking on the bad contract.

With how bad Holmgren was, his value is low. But he would be a great fit next to Queen. If we traded Murphy and Jones to OKC, I think we could get Holmgren and at least one 1st (#12 of 17). That just fixes a lot of our issues right away.
What
OKC is going to trade the 23 year old who was just 2nd in the defensive player of the year voting, an all star and 3rd team all nba for TM3 simply because he had a bad series versus Wemby?

If we trade Trey and keep fat boy, I’m out. This franchise isn’t serious.

I have no issue with trading Trey. Just as long as Herb, DJ, and Zion are right behind him.
I don't want to trade Trey/ Herb for J Brown, at that point just take the 8+ 1sts and trade all 4 separately.
If we "run it back" it needs to be WITH Trey/ DJ and without Zion/ Herb.

Who exactly do you intend to play next season under this scenario?
Oh, and Bill Simmons is a glorified fan who makes shite up, so take nothing out of what he says.
