That’s just a technicality. Huerter can be traded for a pick into TPE. And then we can trade a smaller player into their newly created smaller TPE.

Maybe, but the NBA can void a trade if it feels it was done to circumvent the rules and the 2 trades were effectively connected.

This wouldn't be circumventing the rules though. The entire point of TPEs is to push credits from unbalanced trades forward a year. On paper it's like Huerter was added to the Memphis trade.

I guess so, but the TPE is not supposed to be combined with a player in a trade. That is the only hangup. However, I am sure there is a way to do it so they do not look like the 2 trades are connected.

I don’t believe you are thinking of it right. (And maybe I missed a prior message). What you can’t do is combine the TPE and a player as if we are sending out $20 million plus. But we aren’t combining in scenarios I have seen. For our side, we are essentially just sending our Temple for example. For their side, they are sending out Huerter and receiving Temple which is within the rules. The TPE doesn’t mandate you send out a pick for a player, you can certainly trade a player and receive a player into the TPE.

PS- I swear to nothing on all of this lol

Why exactly would the Hawks be interested in this?

Pelicans and Blazers have spoken about a potential dealing involving CJ McCollum, I’m told. Currently Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Jonas Valanciunas and Devonte' Graham have NOT been included in any of the packages discussed between both teams.

I don’t want to trade Hayes yet. NAW I’ve given up on.

Zion, Herb, Ingram, Hayes are the guys I don’t want to trade. Val I’d like to keep but I’d trade for the right price.

I like a starting lineup of CJ, BI, Herb, Zion, and Jonas with Jose, Graham, Trey, and Willy off the bench.

The Pelicans would be screwing up big time to let Herb go. Cost controlled guy who will defend, but has already showed the ability to score. No way you let him go.

I don't think there is any way we let him go unless we get like a SGA-type in return.

Herb is the type of wing we were dreaming of overpaying for, so it's insane we got him in the 2nd round.

Now we need a lead guard who can dribble, set up an offense, and shoot 3s. Don't need to overpay for anyone over 27 who fits the bill.

*ETA: just to put it in perspective, everyone is jacking off over Lou Dort and Herbert is 6 months older but by and large similar with a much bigger frame and better projection defensively

Right. As great as Herb is playing, what is just as amazing is that we have him for two more years on a minimum contract. That's insanely valuable.

Surprised Graham is being held out of talks unless it's Portland saying they aren't interested. He may fit better with Zion but he hasn't shown me enough to think he's untradeable.

Impossible. CJ will be retired before Zion is healthy.

Not that we should put in credence in his "scoop" but how obvious is the statement? Other than Graham, the other players are no-brainers not to be included. Outside of those guys, I would like to hold on to Hayes at this point, but he would not be a deal breaker.

Feel like this means Hart is gone if we make this deal. Mannnnnn, gonna miss him so much. I get you gotta give something good to get something good back, but damn……love having his leadership, energy and positivity. Really wish there was some way we could keep him around and still get CJ.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want CJ? If we are gonna go balls deep, go get fox.

Depends how cheap he may be compared to what fox will be. If we’re giving up a lot, I’ll be a bit annoyed

Agreed. CJ might be relatively cheap compared to Fox. I have a feeling the FO wants to add someone without going balls deep and trading for an all out star just yet.

I wouldn’t be thrilled at adding CJ since it’s clear he’s declining but he certainly doesn’t make us worse right now
