Anyone who wants to look up some other advanced stats can knock themselves out, but here are 538's RAPTOR ratings for Hield and Kennard. They aren't really very similar.

Hield: Offensive +1.9, Defensive -1.5, Total +0.4, Wins over Replacement +4.0

Kennard: Offensive +0.6, Defensive -3.7, Total -3.1, Wins over replacement -0.3

Kennard can shoot. We can do a straight up S&T with Hart. We just need a shooter to back up NAW. His shooting numbers are really impressive..

Hey, I wouldn't really complain if we traded for Bertans. He's another volume shooter and would fill an offensive role similar to the one we are discussing for Buddy.

The problem is that Bertans is forward, so we really couldn't start him without playing BI at the 2, so I just feel that he's not a good fit, and Bertans makes too much to be a backup.

This wouldn’t be pels talk without at least someone suggesting the highest paid/second highest paid player come off the bench.

Not saying that Kennard is better than Hield by any stretch, but if we can’t pull off a trade for Buddy, I would be okay with Kennard. He’s a solid shooter on a pretty good deal.

ETA: AAV 13.7 mil for someone who shoots 45% on catch and shoot

Zach lowe re Utah

quote:

With extensions kicking in for both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell that average between $32 and $41, along with some offseason additions, the Jazz have seen their tax bill escalate. That's sparked speculation that Utah might move on from one of their mid-tier salary players like Bojan Bogdanovic, Joe Ingles or Royce O'Neale. However, sources indicate that the Jazz will not move any players for now.

If we hold onto our TPE, the trade deadline could be fun for us.

The more I imagine a starting rotation of

Graham
Hield
Ingram
Zion
Jonas

The more I want to will this into existence. We’d still be weak at the 4 behind Z, but that’s a super potent starting 5.

Also, I realize it’s just summer league, but I think Green is going to field a much more inspired defense. It seems like the players really buy in when he’s talking to them in the huddle. He also seems to do a really good job at being able to communicate his message effectively in the huddle. I just like him a lot so far. Also the fact he wanted to jump in and start coaching in summer league is very encouraging

Would also be horrific defensively...but would be fun on offense.

Yeah, that’s partially why I threw out the Green stuff. I feel like BI and Zion both have the potential to be great defenders, but they haven’t shown it consistently; my hope is that Willie can help with that aspect.

Jonas is a good run protector and from what I’ve read from Charlotte fans, Graham is better of defense than he’s given credit…I can’t say the same for Buddy, unfortunately

I want to see how his "pull you aside and point out your mistakes" approach works for someone like Ingram, who's been around for a while.. but yes I love the approach he's taking, especially with such a young team

There's still the potential that Buy-In Buddy could show some improvement on defense

Oh for sure, anyone can be a good defender. Defense is largely about the work you put in. I just mean he hasn’t shown anything as of yet, whereas you hear conflicting testimony on Graham’s D from Hornet fans

Same, but the good thing about this squad is that our 2 stars are still very coachable

I wish we would have traded up with the second 1st round pick to try to land Nesmith or Bey instead of trading it for Adams last offseason. We wouldn't be so desperate for a guy like Hield within this fanbase right now had we prioritized some shooting last season.

I would agree anyone can be "good", but some guys will simply never be good enough. Being good on defense has more to do with your mentality and instincts than physical skills sometimes. Obviously if you're too damn slow, it's tough to be good defensively, but what's more important is keeping your head on a swivel and reacting proactively instead of reactively, and that's a lot easier said than done.

Also, it is extremely common to see lazy defense out of most guys on shitty teams, especially when all you've known is shitty teams, like Buddy. Put him in the playoffs, or at least on a playoff caliber team where his teammates are demanding better effort, and i bet his defensive intensity is kicked up 4 or 5 notches. Not that it would make him some great defender at that point, but you'll at least have his full attention at that point.
Winning basketball can cure many ailments, especially laziness. Nothing positive comes from getting used to losing, and a lot of our guys have gotten used to losing.
