I would put Stevie Wonder at Jazz Fest in 2008 as my greatest concert experience.
Worked my way up close to the stage and saw up close the genius of how he mastered all the arrangements of his layers of music.
To witness his perfect timing within each song and his subtle expressions as he performed was mesmerizing.
I don’t expect to ever top this experience.

Laugh all you want, but Brooks & Dunn put on a helluva show at the Wharf in Orange Beach.

I'm torn.

On one hand, I went to a Disturbed concert and it was amazing.

The other, I went to a Shania Twain concert and happened to be near the railing as a 12 year old and got to slap her butt while she was going through the crowd.

Pink Floyd at the Superdome in 94 I think it was. Easily the best show I've ever been to.

J Geils Band destroyed the Centroplex in the early '80's. DA Ossie Brown declared that all patrons had to remain seated during concerts since dancing disturbed his Baptist beliefs. Peter Wolf declared from the stage if we all got up and boogied then there wasn't a thing the cops could do about it. He was right, and the band blew it up from there.

The one that popped into my mind when I read this is Archers of Loaf at Emo's (austin). When they took the stage at 11pm it was still 98 degrees outside (Emo's is an outside venue....really a crumbling old building with no roof) I sweated my arse off, had my pockets full of bottled beer because it was too crowded to go back to the bar, but they killed it that night.

Bonnaroo 2011:

The Decemberists - My Morning Jacket - Arcade Fire

Straight up concert would probably have to be LCD Soundsystem.

Soundgarden opening for Guns at the PMAC in January 1992. It was fricking cold that night, but that concert scorched. Soundgarden was relatively unknown and was facing a pretty "whatever, get off the stage, chumps" crowd when they came out on stage, but they had that place out of its mind by the end of their set. It was just a full-on onslaught. Imagine it: For many of us it was the first time we'd ever really heard Soundgarden and they show up playing stuff like "Rusty Cage", "Outshined", etc. They totally won that that crowd over and got it rocking. Then Guns hit the stage (after the contractually required delays) with "It's So Easy", "Mr. Brownstone", "Welcome to the Jungle", and "Sweet Child o' Mine" all in a row. That crowd was fricking frenzied by then. Best show and best crowd I've ever seen, hands down.

Second best show was The Ramones opening for Pearl Jam in September 1995 because 1)The Ramones and 2)Pearl Jam. It was only a year before the Ramones called it quits, so the crowd had a huge number of people who clearly were there to see the Ramones first and foremost. There was a huge amount of black leather in a sea of flannel. The show was at Tad Gormley stadium, so it was outdoors in a football field, but it was like a highschool field with the bleachers that had field access. I was about 4 rows back on the right side of the stage for the Ramones set and it was just a sea of black leather on the ground and a sea of flannel in the stands. The Ramones were fricking awesome. Then, when it was time for Pearl Jam, the flannel filtered onto the field and the leather filtered up into the stands. Both fan bases just swapped and watched the other fanbase's band. I parked it back by the sound booth for Pearl Jam and kicked back. Great show with two very different bands and fan bases that just got along. Ticketmaster was the best thing to happen for that show because otherwise, we'd have not gotten The Ramones opening. They only opened for the handful of shows that Pearl Jam canceled and had to reschedule because of that debacle. I do distinctly remember looking at the crowd and thinking their clothing choices were not ideal for an outdoor concert in September in New Orleans.

Roger Waters last year was just a fricking spectacle. I'd never seen any of the Floyd guys and just the overall production was a lot to take in.

Mine too. It was my son’s first concert, so doubly awesome experience.

was thinking about this the other day.

Can't decide which is the best, but:

Paul McCartney, Houston in 2005 (37 songs, freaking amazing)
The Black Crowes - Houston House of Blues
Wilco - ACL
Dwight Yoakam - John T. Floore's Country Store
