Mars Volta at the Orpheum in '05 before Katrina flooded it.

Best festival experience may have been Voodoo '04. I only went 1 day but the last three bands were Pixies, Green Day, and then Beastie Boys. I had never seen any of these bands before. I wasn't a huge fan of Green Day's latest stuff (american idiot) but they were actually pretty good live. Pixies were very good. I got within a few people of the stage for Beastie Boys and that was an awesome show.

Blind melon at the stone pony in asbury park, nj. It was a warmup show for woodstock 94 and they played for almost 3 hours. Theres lots of other magical shows ive seen, but this was the first one that popped into my mind.

I was there. And I appreciate your take, as you are obviously a Romones fan.

I'm not. I thought their set was the biggest bunch of noise I'd ever heard in person, and 3/4 of the crowd totally tuned them out for that reason. But, it only built the anticipation for real music that was about to happen.

Not to mention, the canceled PJ tour at the height of their popularity made the only 4 shows they did nationwide that year all the more special. People came from all over the country to see that show. I was partying with people from Florida and Pennsylvania.

With the rain earlier in the day, the padded floor of Tad Gormley, the low-hanging clouds drifting over the stadium illuminated by the city lights on a balmy September night, and the anticipation... Pearl Jam put on my favorite concert ever.

You could tell that the band was eager to perform, too. The crowd matched their intensity. I think the crowd singing "Alive" was louder than the band. It was magical to experience, and I've been to a boatload of concerts.

Several years later, 92.3 WCKW asked the question, "What was the best concert you ever saw in New Orleans?" and Pearl Jam at Tad Gormley was the easy winner.

Many great ones but this one comes to mine - It was in the early 1980's (summer of 1981 I believe)at the Assembly Center. I was standing in the front row next to the stage. It was the last tour of the Jackson Five before Michael went off on his own. What a performer. Incredible concert.

I had almost all those bands on my list but I was only able to catch most of Polyphonic Spree and all of the Killers set. The Spree blew me away actually and became one of my favorite bands since then. The Killers sort of bombed unfortunately. They just did not seem happy to be there and the audience wasn’t feeling them either. I remember reading an article where they were interviewed and complained about the audience.

U2- Zoo TV Tour in Atlanta @ The Omni 1992. I was given concert tickets by my parents for my 16th birthday. I was already a pretty big U2 fan at this point but this show blew my frickin mind. This concert literally changed my life. I felt like I was elevating during Pride(In the Name of Love) and after it was all over I’ve never felt such a high (drug free) like that ever again in my life. It was truly a spiritual experience.

I watched the dvd of this tour and it looked like an amazing show. I wanted to see him when he came to Atlanta but can’t remember why I couldn’t make it. I’ve regretted missing this tour ever since. I saw him at Chastain Park later on in his career and while it was a good show, it was nothing close to the Secret World tour.

Damn. Now that I think of it, Voodoo 03 and 05 both changed my life. I won a 3 day pass to the 03 festival but only went on Sunday, and saw end of QOTSA, then A Perfect Circle, and the White Stripes. APC was amazing and was the reason I went that day. White Stripes were fun but I probably lost some hearing after that show.

Voodoo ‘05 was special. I bought early bird tickets, then Katrina destroyed NOLA 2 months before the festival. They tried to move the festival to Memphis but Trent Reznor pushes to still have something in NOLA. They allowed only people who had already bought tickets and Katrina first responders to attend( for free). The location was also changed to somewhere near Audubon Zoo. I went the whole day and had a great time. Saw Death From Above 1979, QOTSA, and NIN. QOTSA were awesome. I wasn’t a huge NIN fan at the time but liked With Teeth, but after that show, I was a huge fan and they remain one of my favorite bands. That festival was unlike anything I’ve ever been to before.

Pink Floyd 1994

Went and saw them in Nashville at Vandy's football stadium. Was epic, especially with the 1/2 oz of weed and shrooms we had with us.

Runner-up would have to be seeing GnR before anybody really knew who they were. They opened up for Motley Crue on the Crue's Girls, Girls, Girls tour in '87. I saw them in Huntsville about 3 weeks before Appetite for Destruction came out.

My daughter (an LSU student at the time) took me to see Rush in NO for Fathers Day in 2011. Was a great show and loved sharing something so great with my daughter. She's been listening to Rush ever since.
