The New South through The Pressure is On is some of the greatest country music ever produced.
For you Southeast Missourians in this thread: I used to ride the back roads in the Castor River bottoms around Gipsy and out of Marble Hill listening to these albums. Legend has it that Hank, Jr. had a place and deer hunted near there in the 1990’s.

He just did a show on the natchez bluffs a few weeks ago. I couldn't go but i saw pics on fb. Crowd was huge. Think i read there were more people at that concert than any balloon race before it.
Hopefully this is the start of something big for the natchez music scene. If there’s a more scenic venue in the south for a music festival i’d like to see it

I wore "The Pressure is On" cassette out making rounds on a IH1486 back in the day. Loved that album.

Legitimate "real country" act who is also paradoxically more rock and roll than any rock and roll band that has been around for less than 25 years.

opinion of Hank Williams Jr.
Equally talented song writer as his Dad
Better singer than his Dad
In his heyday tried to party as hard as his Dad; he didn't
Lived through shite that should have killed him

In defense of his father, the technology of that time didn't do justice to his voice. He sounded like he was singing in a tin can.

Absolutely.

I'm a much bigger fan of his father. Hank Sr. was a brilliant lyricist.
That said, I have an appreciation/admiration for Jr. carving out his own distinct career in the massive shadow
Exactly this. Like his stuff. It is uniquely his. Can't say I'm a huge fan.
But I appreciate that he had a lot to deal with when undertaking his career. He began basically covering his dad's songs. And I think he was OK with that, it was his dad after all. But, as I recall, he got a lot of negative pushback from music execs when he started to do his own thing initially and he told them all to basically go f themselves.

He ranks in the top 2 or 3 singer/songwriters IMO. Plus he's a bonafide bad-arse dude.

Jr. carved out a great career for himself in the shadow of his legendary father, but let's tap the breaks on him being a better songwriter and singer.
Hank Sr. died at age 29 with a catalog of hits that arguably rivals any country singer who lived into their 70s. As for their voices, although you can't really tell how good Sr's voice was because of the primitive recording equipment back then, I do find his voice a little nasally and prefer Jr.'s voice, which is strong and honest.

somewhere between southern rock and country, which is a line from a later Travis Tritt song. In fact, Tritt's music must have been heavily influenced by Jr.
I saw Hank in 91 and 92 when he was headlining shows for new albums, and again as part of an all day festival type show in '96. He put on a great show and the headlining shows let you see why he got Entertainer of the Year awards.
Probably his best album, The Pressure Is On, just celebrated its 40th anniversary. Some great great songs on that album: A Country Boy Can Survive, Coalition to Ban Coalitions, All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down, Ballad of Hank Williams.

First exposure to Hank Jr. was thru a weed source my teenage buddies had, older single dude who lived in a singlewide under an overpass in Pineville. You'd go to make a purchase and the guy always had Hank Jr playing on the stereo, along with whatever random porn VCR tape playing on the TV (from one of the many boxes of porn tapes).
Never a huge fan, but I like him. Gonna go see him in Oct just cuz it's super convenient to me.
Lot's of folks like the sharecropper / hillbilly sound. For my money, Hank III inherited this from his grandpappy. I prefer Hank III over his dad 10 to 1.
Not everybody likes us, but we drive some folks wild

70-80’s stud career.
Annoying now just due to politics. I think today’s Hank JR and 70’s Hank Jr. would probably fight.

This is my opinion as well. 3 has been MIA for a few years, but his last 4 or 5 records were perfect.

My first concert was Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank, Jr, but Hank never made it to the stage.
Whiskeybent And Hellbound is a great song.
Last time I saw him in concert, group of guys in the row in front of us got into 3 different fights. They lost all 3. One guy got both his eyes dotted by 2 different guys.
