IMO, it's a beautiful song, and the cover is equally beautiful, but there's no way in my mind, to decide between the two.

Yup. They do some mighty fine cover songs.

Here's a couple of live ones...

Hendrix' version of All Along the Watchtower is king of this.

Animals-House of the Rising son
Counting Crows- Untitled(Love Song)
Peter Gabriel- Book of Love( not necessarily better just different.)

Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide

I hate the Dixie Chicks, but their cover of Landslide is waaaaaaaay better.

Won't post a link... but the Sinead O'Connor version of Nothing Compares 2 U is infinitely better than the Prince version... although it was only available on bootlegs prior to the SO'C version becoming a hit.

FWIW... I've told Johnette Napolitano on multiple occasions that she needs to do a cover of "Just Call Me Angel (in the morning)" and she laughs every time I mention it.

And although nothing beats the original Heart version... this is damn impressive:

The Ghost of Tom Joad by Rage is probably my favorite cover of all time.

True, but this one is better than Sinead O'Connor's version.

That, and nearly everybody covering a Townes Van Zandt song (and, yes, Townes was a phenomenally talented song writer; possibly the best).

Cowboy Junkies "Sweet Jane"

I saw them about 15 years ago at Tipitina's. Great show. And agreed, one of the best covers ever.

Manfred Mann "Blinded by the Light"

Springsteen song, for you young'uns.
