Slightly better musician, no where near the songwriter Lennon was.

The Grateful Dead was one of the most punk bands ever.

They were completely counter culture/non conformist. They were wholly DIY. They didn't give a shite about what anyone thought about them or their music. They constantly pissed off the establishment.

Obviously, they didn't play short, fast, loud, aggressive music, but that's only a part of what punk is. Ironically, most "punk" people probably hate/hated the band, but they really embodied the attitude of a true punk band.

Motorhead sucks and are not better than AC/DC - who are also massively overrated.

The Ramones have a few good tunes but suck also.
