You can just tap your phone to pay to ride now. No need for a Breeze card anymore. Super easy.

There’s a good chance you’ll have plenty other folks on there going to the game and back coming from that way.

Tons of Steel too. Just unlistenable, imo.
Has anyone mentioned the Audi logos on the field looked like a child painted them?
There’s a great The Daily podcast today about the rift in Silicon Valley. OpenAI and Anthropic don’t want open source, and basically all others do, but there’s a lot of open source Chinese models on the market now, which is a huge threat to OpenAI and Anthropic. Even some of their customers have pivoted to free Chinese models.

There are also some serious questions about the safety of open source and what happens if those Chinese models are bad actors, etc. On the flip side, OpenAI and Anthropic want to keep open source down so they can try to control the market.

It’s still very much the Wild West and only seems to be accelerating at a pace faster than we can get our hands around. Just this week, OpenAI models broke out of supposed “safe boxes” and hacked other companies on their own. That should be deeply concerning to all of us.

I can't recommend this enough and think it's weird how "scared" some people seem to be of such. You really get to see a lot of things you don't normally see.

It all depends on where you are. Amalfi coast? Absolutely not. Countryside of Umbria/Tuscany? Absolutely.
I love train travel, eating food that shouldn't be this good being served from a bar cart, drinking great beer, and looking at the sights, including all the nuke reactors in Southern France that operate flawlessly. But, Americans don't get that Europe essentially has multiple versions of Frontier/Spirit all over the place for cheap.

Would have preferred to take a train, but from what I saw it’s a min 12 hour train ride with multiple stops and changes from Porto to Barcelona.

You haven't really lived until you see the sun rise in the Porto airport waiting on your no frills 7 am Ryan Air flight.

Also, don't forget Barca is closer to many cities in France than it is other Spanish cities. Pretty cool to hear a train conductor speak English and French flawlessly, then cross the border (coming from Marseille) and speak flawless English and Spanish.

I got back from a week in Portugal and one in Barcelona last week. I never realized Catalan is closer to French than Spanish.

I’ll second Provence. Spent 8 days with our home base in Saint Remy in 2019 and would go back in a heartbeat. The TGV from Paris to Avignon is only about 2.5 hours. Rent a car at Avignon and drive around from there.

You can get from Avignon to the Barcelona Sants station in about 4 hours by train.

Portugal to Barcelona will require flying. We flew from Porto to Barcelona on Ryan Air for like $80/person. Just shy of 2 hours in the air.

I think CCR, The Beach Boys and the Allman Brothers are better choices for the most American of all bands.

I think the way the Dead did it - 100% DIY and spanned such a broad catalog of musical styles puts them in front. Their entire ethos was pure Americana.

I live in Atlanta and we have the Amex platinum. We use pretty much all the benefits every year and only stay with platinum vs Delta reserve for points flexibility even though we only ever use them for Delta miles.

We both fly enough to have the lounge access be worth it. The good thing about platinum is you get all the Amex clubs and Priority Pass lounges too. There have been times I’ve skipped the sky club because it’s too crowded or there’s a wait and used the Amex clubs instead.
Went to the first three stages in Barcelona. Was at the top of the second to last climb for stage 1. Was at the downhill turn onto Paral•el for stage 2 and saw the team intros and departure in Granollers for stage 3. We got three laps on the downhill turn. Watching those guys fly by was exhilarating.

We were going to try to go to the mountains or finish for the third stage but they were telling people to stay away from the finish due to some fires in the area so we just caught the start and called it a day. That was the hottest of the 3 days in Spain.
Definitely do not go to southern Utah in summer, but as one poster mentioned, mid to late October is perfect for that. I’ve done all 5 in October and it was ideal. Have also done Zion and Bryce in early April and that was very nice. We hiked in some remaining snow at Bryce.

Your best bet for anything cooler in Summer would be Glacier or potentially something in Washington - Cascades or Olympic. Sequoia/Kings Canyon might be an option but it can get pretty hot at lower elevations in summer. Possibly Tetons. Maybe Banff in Canada too, which is on my list.

I know you said you’re not into hiking but I’d encourage you to at least get on some easier trails. It would be a shame to go to these incredible landscapes and not actually get off the road and into them for a bit. I’ve had some of the best hikes of my life in our national parks.
Don’t remember the very first one, but the first nice glove I got was a black Rawlings Trap-Eze when I was 15. I babied that thing and it lasted almost 30 years before I had to replace it.

I’ve played softball for years and both my boys play baseball, so my new gloves get lots of use. I bought another Trap-Eze but couldn’t find a black one. Got the brown version. I thought I’d lost it at my kids park and so I bought a Wilson A2K and then found the Rawlings in the office lost and found about a year later. Apparently they put the nicer gloves in the office.

The two recent gloves were “used.” I used quotes because if they were used, they’d been thrown with maybe 10 times. Both were almost 50% off regular price. Definitely look for lightly used gloves for great deals if you need a new one.

I was going to recommend that as well. Great for kids.

How long will you be there? Just one day?
I can’t give any recs because our trip was setup through our Airbnb host, but that was possibly our best day in Italy. Highly recommend. Private boat and we left from a little west of Sorrento(Marina di Puolo) and went to Maiori and back with multiple stops along the way. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

The Bertha that kicks off DP 18 is probably my favorite. Love Jerry’s tone and that solo is bouncy, Jerry perfection.

Took our kids to Sequoia fall break before last.

We started at General Sherman > Congress Trail > Circle Meadow Loop. Got to Sherman at probably 8:30 and had very little crowds. By the time we finished and walked out at Sherman, it was slammed so get there early enough.

Takopah Falls hike is great. Highly recommend. Sunset Rock is a nice hike. Not real long.

Grant Grove area has some nice hikes too. Little Baldy is nice. The drive into Kings Canyon as fantastic.
It’s wreaking havoc on the aluminum market as well. About 10% of the world’s supply comes from that area and several plants were hit with strikes from Iran. When you don’t properly shut down an aluminum plant, it typically takes 12+ months to restart. The pots cool and it solidifies. You have to chip it out and start all over, having to rebuild them if it’s not done right.
The Daily podcast did a pretty good podcast on it yesterday. A long interview with the reporter and some time with Back as well. The forensic evidence in the writing styles seems to point to him. If all of that’s just a coincidence, it’s one hell of a coincidence.

The 2027 federal budget proposal cuts $736mm from the National Parks budget, which is about 25% of the total budget.

Is even more frustrating given the fact that National Parks have one of the best overall returns of any federally managed dept.

This is true. The Sweet 16 is pretty much the floor for UNC and he only got there twice in five years. Meanwhile, Duke has been on the rise after Scheyer stepped in after one of the all timers left with not much of a dip.

Bruce was on sports talk radio in Atlanta probably a week ago and he said it likely takes $8-10MM to be a top tier team now and he had just over $4MM in his last year.
