This thread sucks:

A) it should be on the music board
B) Other than a few "real" answers (i.e., Justin Bieber) folks just list classic hall of fame type bands that they personally just don't happen to like. Your poor opinion of a huge band (those listed above include the Beatles, Elvis, Rush, Pink Floyd, U2, etc) does not imply them being "overrated". It just says that you don't like them. I'm sure just as many of us hate the fratboy band/scream metal band/faux country "rebel" that you think is the GOAT.

Enough common sense. It's almost noon on a Friday.

Momma Cass. She couldn't even eat a ham sandwich without choking to death. They had to bury her fat arse in an abandoned missile silo.

If Momma Cass had shared that ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they would both still be alive.

I agree with Springsteen and Elton John. They are both rightfully legends but still overrated.

Never really got into Foo Fighters but maybe I was just a few years too old at the time.

Every decade since the 50s has a very unique sound. However, in the past twenty years since '98, it all sort of sounds the same to me. I like some of the pop hits but mostly don't pay attention.

The Doors were mentioned and I understand that but never hear them mentioned as 'one of the best' and they have a few songs that are as unique as they come. If I had taken LSD when it was popular, I might like them even more.

The Beatles

John Lennon in particular

The greatest musicians generally don't garner a great deal of attention for their musicianship. None of the beatles were ever the greatest at any instrument. as john once said, when asked if ringo was the best drummer in the world, "he's not even the best drummer in the beatles."

good bad or ugly, in your opinion, the beatles were the voices and faces of an overnight shift in rock & roll music that changed the world. lennon and mccartney wrote some pretty good music and the beatles played it reasonably well. but their big contribution, imho, was telling kids that they have a voice, and there were options to Pat Boone.

Taylor Swift may not be the greatest at anything other than pandering to her demographic, but she has parlayed that into a heck of a career. She's probably making ot bank by now.

i fricking hate bruce springsteen's voice and cannot stand to listen to any of his music, but he is a hell of a song-writer. same for Dylan.

Slash.

I never thought he was a "great" guitarist. But he is, in fact, better at it than myself.

Some of my favorite music is Billy Joel's top hits. However, I struggle to listen to more than about 30 seconds for those that are not considered in his top 15-20 songs.

Bob Dylan is a tough one. He's more of a poet that was influential in so many historic ways. I like some of his stuff but can understand if some may think he's overrated.

Sometimes I wonder who will be remembered 200 years from now. The Beatles are obvious but there are a lot of great bands that may get lumped together in 'eras'. With The Beatles, I think their #1 hits are a little overrated but some of my favorite music are the songs considered in the 30-100 best. Amazing that they had so many quality songs that sounded so different in such a relatively short amount of time.

I totes agree on the overrated part but you should take a gander at the documentary about him.
He wasn't some Disney cookie-cutter success story. A producer stumbled across his youtube videos and went found him. He's a talented young man who's overshadowed by the douchie shite young popstars do.

The Beeb's Documentary on Youtube.
