Now granted it was very much a product of that particular time period, not ot mention it was a very young band in their first full production. So I don't "blame" them for it. But if you put on PATGOD it very much FEELS like it's from 1967, and much of it is simply in your face psychedelia just for psychedelia's sake.
Musically, TO ME, it isn't even in the same stratosphere as pretty much everything else from More through the Wall.
It was always funny in college you'd have that one mega stoner that acted like the PF purist that only liked Piper or the madcap laughs or pretty much anything syd but would claim the band went to shite once he left and gilmour came on lol. Like how is that even possible to have that opinion

Nah bra.
Meddle is incredible. Fearless is probably in my top 5 for most underrated Floyd songs. Echoes is a top 3 Floyd song, period.
But DSOTM is literally a perfect album. It is THE concept album of all concept albums.
I do think Meddle is criminally underrated. Other albums that are criminally underrated are Atom Heart Mother, The Final Cut, and Division Bell.

TFC and Pros and Cons of Hitchiking sound very similar to me and they show that all Roger is not a good thing. There just a few bits here and there where you say, oh, cool, and then the rest is a mess.

I recently was going through some personal issues and listened to nothing but Floyd for about 2 weeks. Meddle, Darkside, WYWH, Animals and The Wall. Depending on my mood at the time, I can make a strong case for The Wall, Darkside or WYWH as the best. As much as I love Meddle, it’s weak in the middle. San Tropez and Seamus just don’t quite fit. That is something that I cannot say about Darkside, WYWH or The Wall. Gun to my head I’d pick WYWH with Darkside a very close second. We hear the hits from Darkside all the time and I think it causes us to downplay how incredible that album is lyrically and musically. Us and Them being my favorite.

That Billy version sucks so bad I have to wonder if he was making fun of the song. He's doing the Dana Carvey bit about guitar players acting like magicians with every chord change.

Meddle is great for a bunch of reasons I’d just be repeating that’s already stated in this thread. However it’s not better than DSotM. DS is great from beginning to end. Meddle imo has some filler that lowers its rank. Definitely an underrated PF album though

I don't know. isn't the first 20 minutes of Dark Side just as bad as the first 20 minutes of Atom?

Meddle was my first PF album and the one that started my obsession.
But, DSotM is the best PF Album and in my opion, the best album ever made. Ever. Even though Meddle has Echoes which is the best song by PF

I always viewed Echoes as being THE piece that bridges old (pre-dark side) to new (commercial success) Floyd
