Thanks for posting this as I've never seen it. Layne was unbelievably talented and I would have killed to see this Layne after releasing Dirt. He was in his prime here. Never ended up seeing the full AIC because of his addictions.
I think AIC was the best of the bunch and I am a huge fan of PJ, Soundgarden, Nirvana, STP, etc. I think Dirt is better than most of the albums out around that time minus a couple. However, Jar of Flies was their Magnum Opus. Layne was great in Mad season as well. A true loss when he went down that hole.

I prefer In Utero to Nevermind. Anyone else agree?

Difficult to answer since the question indirectly pits Layne against Kurt and they both dated the Girl with Golden Eyes and suffered the same fate as so many before them. I really don't agree with judging the deceased.
However, I must agree with this threads majority and say Layne and AIC. What a voice and range he had at his prime.

Mark Arm, that makes sense.

Go to 22:12 for Bleed the Freak.
My favorite AIC song, and that particular concert is one of my favorite renditions of it.

Dirt is one of the best albums of all time.

even though Siamese Dream had some really good songs.
Siamese Dream is a perfect album, solid all the way through

Absolutely
And OP the answer is Dirt (yes I know the song I posted is from Facelift)

Ten. lol
My real answer to OP is Dirt.
I gave ZERO credit to AIC when they were peaking. I was also butthurt because they backed out of a festival Metallica headlined, due to a rehab trip.

Loved Layne and AIC and do not want to make the argument over who is better as a singer.
But Soundgarden's Louder than Love and Badmotorfinger are better than any 2 AIC ever released. Much more raw and inline with the grunge movement.
Complete backwards imo. Cornell had one the best voices in rock history. It doesn't get anymore raw than Dirt and Facelift (Jar of Flies and self titled are a different story)

“Jar of Flies” is the best.
Except it wasn't an album it was EP. But yeah "I stay away" might be their best song.

Nirvana was not that great. Their best song was Rape Me. Don't really care much about the lyrics, but it was a good song melodically.

I hate how much hate Nirvana gets today. I was young when they hit the scene, and I actually didn’t warm up to them for a few years. For better or worse they were the face of the grunge movement. They probably are overrated a bit, but they were still pretty good.
All that said, AiC was the better band, and Dirt is better than any album Nirvana ever put out. “Would” is the best song AiC ever made, and one of the best rock songs anyone ever put out.
