HOB is good for an intimate experience with the right act.

updating my list of favorites to include the orion amphitheater in huntsville AL. fantastic
-great sightlines & sound
-wide aisles and comfortable seating
-very nice concessions and a huge outdoor festival area for pre/post show party
-easy in/out/parking/etc. completely hassle free
-casual security not in your face at all. you can move around and watch from any spot in the place without getting a shakedown
-plus its a beautiful building
highly recommend

I personally wouldn't rank Grant St. as one of the better venues I've been too. However, I saw some killer shows back in the day: Stevie Ray Vaughan, DOWN, the Wailers, Robert Cray, Richie Havens, Taj Mahal, Warren Zevon, and Anders Osborne 2-3x's. Seemed like Marcia Ball, Sonny Landreth and Eric Lindell played there several times each year. Originally an old fruit warehouse, 300-400 people and it was perfect, 800-900 people and it got claustrophobic & hot quick.

Probably Red Rocks (outdoors) and The Ryman (indoors)
but there are several that I thoroughly enjoyed:
Alpine
Deer Creek
MSG
The Gorge
and for some local flair, I'll always have a soft spot for Gruene Hall and Luckenbach

Clutch at Grant St was the hottest show I've ever been to. I don't get hot easily and even in 100 degree heat don't sweat much but I was soaked at this show and it was mostly my own as opposed to some fat shirtless guy in the pit. Still an awesome show.

1. The Bayou - Georgetown, D.C.
2. The Warner Theater - D.C
3. The Capital Centre - Largo, MD.
Not so much the venue, but the setup for YES "In the Round" with a 3-tier round stage in the center that revolved slowly the entire show.

Saw the Kinks, Tom Petty, and the Cars all on the same bill at the Warehouse in NOLA. Also saw the Allman Brothers there.

It's been mentioned several times already.
Colorado - Red Rocks
It's by far the best outdoor venue I've ever been too. Beautiful all four seasons. Great sound.

The Shed - Maryville TN
I don't know that it's a great venue...but they've brought in some really great acts. I had a blast at a Todd Snider show there.
