I am sure there are better but every time this subject is brought up I think of Comfortably Numb

So it may not be the GOAT but it's up there.

Probably Peter Bucks masterpiece before the final chorus of the REM’s “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?”

That was always my favorite grunge / garage rock song of the 90’s. Weird that it came from REM

This is my #1...my #2 would probably be Voodoo Child (Slight Return)...and I love both the Hendrix and SRV versions.

Little Wing from "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" album

It's not so much a guitar solo as it is an expression of God and the Universe through a Stratocaster

Could say the same thing about Are You Experienced from the same record, or the rest of the album, pretty much

The dude was from another planet

Tons of great ones listed

My favorites not listed yet
Gilmore - pick one (Time)
Black Crowed - Remedy
Tesla - Love Song

and because I think it brought the solo back to the mainstream...

Velvet Revolver - Slither

Lots of good stuff mentioned. A couple of avenged sevenfold solos I really like are from ‘the wicked end’ and ‘paradigm’. I’m a big fan of technical guitar playing but with some soul or connectivity to the song. Love arpeggios and sweep picking as well.

The Vivian Campbell solo in Dio-Rainbow in the Dark. Probably my favorite of all time. He is so underused now in Def Leppard.

I’d say Sultans as well. As big of a Brian May fan as there is, the guitar work on that song is just next world good

His solos are incredible on that record. Every single one of them. He was magic on that album. Kinda like Adrian Vandenberg (another underrated guitarist) on Vandenberg's debut. Every note of every solo was perfect. I personally love Campbell's shredding on Stand Up And Shout. Amazing.

Yeah. Gotta be for the paycheck, right? I mean, I play bass and even I could figure out and play what he's playing.
