And why does Britain turn out way more great rock bands than America?

Is it the climate? Is it the fact that they don't have hunting and fishing and girls in bikinis on beaches and pizza buffets, so there is nothing else to do except sit inside and write music?
I mean seriously, if you are listing the "greatest bands of all time," aren't the overwhelming majority British? I'm talking about bands with staying power and a really big catalogue.
The Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
The Who
Pink Floyd
Queen
Moody Blues (not being in the R&RHOF is an abortion)
and virtually all of the great New Wave bands were British
Who has America given us? Who are the "eternal" American bands? Are there any?
REM?
Lynard Skynyrd?
Aerosmith?
Red Hot Chii Peppers?
Foo Fighters?
Bon Jovi? Are they really a Mount Rushmore band?
Fleetwood Mac was a hybrid. So was Foreigner.

Probably a better grasp of English literature.

I’d put Metallica over Bon Jovi

Forgot Nickelback in the US list.

The Eagles
Journey
Motley Crue
Van Halen
Aerosmith
The Doors
Tom Petty and heartbreakers
The Boss and E Street.
All say GFY as they spanned multiple decades each and are still very popular with the youth and Middle-aged alike.

Missing Metallica is a glaring omission

Almost all the British bands you listed are disciples of early American Blues, Rock and R&B... Chuck, Muddy, Elvis, Fats, etc
What's more amazing to me is that The Yardbirds had Clapton, Page, and Beck

Well, the rock scene was gettting started over there (with heavy influences from blues and other American sources, to be fair) before the sound was as mainstream over in America.
The British Invasion directly spurred and inspired many American artists. It was truly a revolution. The edge was continually pushed.
Plus the environment in America was different, with country and big band dominating the airwaves before the British style rock came in and changed the formula. Many more rural areas in America than Britain.

They don’t. Only the best make it internationally....so every British band we hear is really good.
