There is nothing remotely 80s about Stand By Me or Dirty Dancing.
half or more of the music in DD is more 80's than 50's.

I’ll be 39 this month and have never seen it. Due to the shortage of good movies coming out I’m starting to watch movies from the early 90’s I missed it haven’t seen and back to the 70’s.

I’m watching Life now and haven’t seen it since 1999

The most powerful line in the film is spoken in the 80's.

I do, considering my friends are still the same ones I had when I was 12. That may or may not be a good thing.

Nothing about Stand By Me is an 80s

It has Corey Feldman as a kid going on an adventure.

Kieffer Sutherland as an imposing teen gang leader capable of murder.

And Stephen King's schtick

Do you consider Gladiator a 2000s film or a 180s film? It came out in 2000 but was set in 180 so....

I don’t consider Star Wars to be a 70s film, or an earth film for that matter. It’s a long time ago film and a far far away galaxy film

Is 2001 a 60's movie or a 2000's movie?

So the best 90’s movies would not include Saving Private Ryan? That would clearly belong in greatest movies of the 1940’s.

The 80s had a lot of 50s nostalgia.

The movie was set Labor Day weekend 1959.

However the book, Fall from Innocence: The Body, was set in the 1960s, so in the movie there are some things from 1960s. Baseball cards, tv show that was reference, a car.. were from the 1960. BB King released the song in '61

The story of Lard arse is about the most 80s thing in any 80s movie of which "Stand by Me" clearly is.

Possibly the worst thread I have ever seen on Tigerdroppings since I have joined.

It's one thing to argue if Die Hard is a Christmas movie?

But any movie released in the 80's is an 80's movie.

Los Lobos remake of La Bamba is an 80's song....even though Richie Valens sang the original in the 1950's.

At the very least, I learned from this thread that Los Lobos had songs beyond How Far is Heaven. How did I miss them in the 80's?

This morning I learned that my best friend from 5th grade thru 12th had died overnight. Last year he was traveling thru town and stopped to say hello - the first time we had seen each other in over 35 years. When I heard of his death, one of my first thoughts was of that line of dialog.
