I don't have a problem with a character who is a character because of his intellect... I just find it weird when superman and batman are suddenly genius level minds when it had nothing to do with their original characters.
Dr Doom, the Leader, Iron Man etc are super because of their minds. That's not true of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc... that's just the power creep that the DC universe has found itself unable to resist.

I think it depends on which Batman? Adam west? Yes, of course he wins. Michael Keaton or Clooney? Nope..The Cap'n takes them both,

There are way more geniuses and scientists in marvel as a Whole than DC. It seemed everyone was a master of some science or create something amazing.
False. Easily. Marvel has lots of specialized geniuses, maybe.
Is there a JLA member than isn't a genius? Popular Rosters:
Superman - Genius
Batman - Genius
Wonder Woman - Genius
Flash - Genius
Cyborg - Genius
M Manhunter - Genius
Green Arrow - Smart
Let's take a look at the Avengers
Captain America - Smart
Iron Man - Genius
Thor - Smart
Hawkeye - Normal
Widow - Smart
Vision - Genius? Eh. Debatable, he isn't labeled as one.
Hank Pym - Genius
Vision is a computer. Hank and Stark are geniuses, because that's what makes them superheroes.

Batman has never been noted as bench pressing 1200 pounds or running a mile in 73 seconds. That's having Cap running at almost 50 mph. Batman has never been shown doing something close to either of those physically.
Running a mile is 73 seconds, I don't think so. Benching 1,000+ pounds, I think they've shown it in comics.

Probably a wash, but the fact that Cap is faster and stronger doesn't help Batman.
Agree.
quote:
Wash here as well. The adamantium shield pretty much nullifies anything Bats has in his utility belt.
Disagree. Shield provides no protection from things like gas pellets and smoke pellets. It does offer some protection from pellet granades. All of which are standards in the utility belt.
quote:
Most of these are useless when fighting someone like Cap. Cap is used to dealing with spies and such. Computer hacking is useless in a fight against Cap. He can't drown Cap in 100 dollar bills to win from his vast amounts of wealth. His proficiency with technology is probably the only thing that stands out in the "other" category. Also Cap's intellegence level isn't that of a brutish ape that just bashes everything he sees.
Agree, except for the stealth. But as shown in an earlier post, if Cap can detect Black Panther, then I would think he should with Batman.
Oh and if the match occurred at a strip club, then yea Bruce's billions would be showering down like a monsoon!

Yea, but there's a difference between being a genius/intelligent and being one of the world's smartest people.
To me this is one of those stupid things. If your one of the world's 20 most smartest people, then you have to be either a super hero or villain. I read in an interview years ago that DC even had a running joke about Marvel's list of world's smartest people. When someone would ask Mr. Terrific, "Aren't you the world's smartest person?". His reply was, "Actually I'm the world's third smartest person".
To me, both companies are equally bad about it. Maybe the difference is with Marvel it's more that the super powers are a result of being intelligent. With DC, being intelligent is a result of having super powers.
IDK

As with everything in comic-dom.

Agree, but this would be natural in a world filled to the brim with ways to get super powers, imo. The smart people would probably all get them.

Agreed. But it's usually so superfluous. Batman is like the Marvel way, he's super smart, so superhero. But Superman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, Green Lantern, etc., it just seems like overkill. And because it's a result, they are more prone to having more super smart people.
Why aren't we talking about guys beating each other up again?

The argument switched to intelligence after it was deemed there was no way Batman wins in a fight. I don't know how Captain America's toughness is determined, but in Hush storyline Batman only punched Superman 2 or 3 times because he didn't want to break his hand, this is with the kryptonite ring on, so I'm thinking Batman is no longer able to even hit Captain America after a few short minutes. I could be totally wrong but that's what I think.

Shazam isnt a genius. he is a 10yr old kid who has inherited powers. he is capable of having intelligence but lets his naivety rule him instead.
Green Lantern is nowhere near a genius. Hal is usually an idiot actually.
Cyborg is a genius but not vision? cyborg is because half his brain is a computer, which usually means he has information, not the brain to figure out how to use it.
eta: and how are you differentiating smart and genius?

Just read on another site that Batman beat Hulk in the 70s by throwing a gas grenade, then kicking him in the gut to make him gasp and breathe it in.
Batman apparently wins because DC is too chickenshit to let him lose. Ever.

Are you speaking of Batman here? I know they've talked of Cap doing these things.

Hulk gets beat a lot. Captain America kicks him in the junk and tosses him over his shoulder in an old comic. Funny stuff.
HOW DID HE EVER BEAT THE SURFER!

S for the Wisdom of Solomon As Shazam/Captain Marvel, Billy has instant access to a vast amount of scholarly knowledge, including most known languages and sciences. He has exceptional photographic recall and mental acuity, allowing him to read and decipher hieroglyphs, recall everything he has ever learned, and solve long mathematical equations. He also has a great understanding of divine phenomena in the mortal world. The wisdom of Solomon provides him with counsel and advice in times of need. In early Captain Marvel stories, Solomon's power also gave Marvel the ability to hypnotize people.

The rings can act as semi-sentient computers and access information through their connection with the Book of Oa; the rings have problem-solving skills but they cannot make decisions or take actions on their own, and must be given directives by the wearer:
Translation of nearly all languages (originally, this was accomplished by using willpower, but this has changed in the modern era to be a function of the rings themselves).
Communication between ringwielders, regardless of distance apart
Diagnostic capabilities, allowing the user to see in X-Ray, diagnose illnesses, and identify materials.

Wiki says Vision can process Info quickly. Same for Cyborg. So a Push. Either they both are or both aren't.

Let's talk about fighting. This has nothing to do with the OP
Posted on 4/4/14 at 3:04 pm to Muahahaha
Anytime these battles come up that were fought int the Marvel v. DC crossover and based on fan vote, I'm surprised that more people don't mention to one battle in that series that was definitively BS:
When Wolverine beat Lobo through fan vote results. I mean I'm a Marvel guy but that was just kinda lame. And they way they did it - their fight took them behind a bar where they couldn't be seen and Wolverine pops up and takes a puff on his cigar. (ok the cigar part was kind of cool but the fight, not so much)

Yeah that one was bad. Thankfully they aren't considered canon.
