His natural speaking voice is Southern, so it’s not much of a challenge for him.
That character would be a challenge for any actor. There’s no way that Root’s natural accent comes close to that character’s.
Julia Roberts was born and raised in Georgia and does one of the worst southern accents in Hollywood.

Probably Kevin Costner when he played Robin Hood.

I thought Oliver Platt did a pretty good job as Harry Rex in A Time to Kill

As exaggerating as it is I like Craig in Knives Out.
It sounded like he was on the verge of going full retard every time he spoke.

It's been a while, but I thought I remember the Australian guy playing Jason Stackhouse doing a pretty good Southern accent

Reece Witherspoon - Sweet Home Alabama.

Reese was born in Baton Rouge and raised in Memphis so she is southern.

Hal Holbrook as Hamilton "Ham" Johnson in Fletch Lives

I nominate Woody Harrelson in "True Detective." Dude nailed it.

Walton Goggins is credible in most anything, but he's a Bama boy so it hardly counts
I guess the Google machine says he spent most of his early life in Georgia, so I stand corrected

I live in Alabama for the first 25 years of my life, and then lived in Georgia (ATL Metro Area) for the next 6. I have a hard time bringing my southern accent back out (and it was fairly subtle even then) without it sounding over the top.

Maybe so but that was not her accent.
