I guess it's time for me to start posting my Horror Recs collection thread that I made last year. Basically has a ton of threads like these over the years and is a fairly comprehensive list:
Official SPOOKY SEASON Horror Movie Discussion/Recs Thread
I'll keep updating it over the next month or two as well.

you don't like Hereditary, and it doesn't have what you look for, I have to ask...what do you look for?
That’s a bit difficult to answer.
To me, horror movies are a bit like modern fables. There is a concept that’s core to its existence and a horror movie plays around with that concept. I don’t expect all horror movies to be fun but many do have some sort of stimulating question that they’re saying that usually plays out in some fun way.
Ari Aster movies I just find to be wallowing melodramas whose core concept takes a back seat to its pouting

Nah, I have no interest in the old suspiria. The new one, while way too long, really ends up being extremely unique

My two must for Halloween..... Halloween 3: Season of the Witch...and I'm surprised no mention yet..... Trick 'R Treat. I rewatch both every October.

It’s an October tradition for me to do two things: read or reread a classic horror novel, and rewatch a selection of the Universal classic flicks. Wife and I watched the Wolfman Tuesday. Karloff’s Mummy is up on deck next.

I watch the first Scary Movie every year, usually followed by Scream. Sleepy Hollow is a must. Going to introduce our daughter to Poltergeist.

Scream is kind of a year round series for me but I still try to watch at least the first one.
So far I’ve watched:
Annabelle (sucks but wife doesn’t get freaked out so what can you do)
The Conjuring
Happy Death Day
On tap for tonight: Freddy vs Jason
On the list:
Friday the 13th series (it’s been a while since I rewatched so I’m looking forward to this)
Halloween 1-3 and Halloween 2018
A Nightmare on Elm Street + Dream Warriors
Monster House
Lost Boys
Trick R Treat
Halloweentown (for the wife)
Hocus Pocus
Annabelle Creation (very underrated)
Annabelle Comes Home (it’s meh but fun)
Clue
The Shining
Sleepy Hollow
Ready or Not
Insidious 1/2
Evil Dead
The Exorcist
Scream
The Nun II (underrated despite the first sucking)
I like some of the elevated horror flicks like Witch and Midsommar and Hereditary but they don’t feel like Halloween movies to me. The rest of these do.

Forgot about The Ring. That’s always a must as well

Zero. I never watch horror movies.
I might watch The Witch's Curse episode of Murder, She Wrote. S8/E12 (the witch is hot). Or Fire Burn, Cauldron Bubble, S5/E13, with Bill Maher in one of two appearances, the other of which might be the worst episode in the franchise.

Yeah…. Not a fan of hereditary.
Same. I think it’s super overrated.
We just finished the new Salem’s Lot. It was fine. Nothing special, but good enough.

Not coming out till Nov, but I can’t wait for that A24 movie Heretic with Hugh Grant.

We loved Oddity. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Gonna check out V/H/S Beyond. I've heard it's actually pretty good, and I'm always down for some horror anthology.
