Saw it today.
Another super fun outing for Spider-Man. Holland nails a different, yet still familiar, version of Peter. The supporting cast in this one - Happy, May, Ned, Flash - are all very solid.
The humor works really well, pretty much all of the way through.
Gyllenhall as Mysterio was great. Top 5 MCU villains, and the way they built Mysterio's powers into the world was smart. Just so well done to take a villain like Mysterio and make him work. This is one of the MCU's biggest positives is connecting the comics together and making it all relevant to the world they've built.
This made both Mysterio battles awesome. That first battle was one of the better sequences in the MCU. The double-lies just kept you guessing.
Just as good as Homecoming, solid A effort.

The Skrull reveal deflated the film even more. So we didn’t watch a Fury film after all. Nice.
Sometimes I feel you really like comics, and sometimes I feel like you never really get them.
The idea that a villain or hero isn't who you think they are after an issue or a sequence of issues has been a staple of comics since the 60s.
This was a very normal comic booky thing to do concerning Skrulls and/or someone like Mysterio. I thought it was super relevant and didn't feel the movie suffered at all because we find out the Skrulls and Fury are working even more closely together.
You thought you were watching Fury, but weren't, rather than cheapness, that's kind of the point.

I think the point was a way to write Sam Jackson out. We know Fury is basically retired and chilling on the Skrull spaceship so he gets his happy ending. Shield is done so there's no need for a new director. Eventually the secret will get out that Fury is gone and Talos can shapeshift into another person or just be himself and act as the go between for the various Avengers.

Sam Jackson’s never said no to a role, doubt he’s starting now

Its not about him saying no. He's pretty old. Marvel needs to phase him out.

I didn’t get that at all. If anything it seemed like he was starting S.W.O.R.D.

Thanos is gone, you think he’s worried about Peter dealing with an internet blogger?

It can’t be said enough how well they brought in Mysterio. The tie-in with the history and tech was perfect. His team was a great addition to that. JG was great for the role as well.

I was hoping for a live Mysterio at the end but oh well.
I think he still is. Maybe we will get a Mysterio from another Earth or he never really died. Feige has confirmed that the multiverse does exist as it has been established already by the Ancient One.

Have we not yet mentioned in here that Peter called his dick a "web shooter"?

I marked out seeing Jonah after the movie

Saw it last night.
The first act dragged on, but I thought Mysterio was fantastic. Jake Gyllenhall was great and the illusions were a ton of fun.
I liked Peter Parker’s story and the scene with him and Happy in the jet was very good.
Don’t understand why Zendaya is getting hate in this thread. She doesn’t blow me away but she’s a perfectly good MJ. Definitely better than she was in Homecoming and she has good on-screen chemistry with Holland, which is really all that matters.
Also, I enjoyed seeing J.K. Simmons at the end way more than I should have. The fact they turned him into Alex Jones is perfect
Very fun movie from about the 45-minute mark on.

if she was just a completely new character altogether, I think there would have been no hate. This weird MJ but not Mary-Jane thing got people in a tizzy from the very beginning. I would have rather her been Mary Jane or a brand new character but still don't have a problem with her on the screen.

Meh. It’s not the first time Marvel (or any studio or writers for that matter) have monkeyed with a character’s past/origin.
She works on screen and that all that matters. If she just sucked as an actress or the character they wrote didn’t fit the story they were telling, I’d have a problem. Neither of those are happening.

go back to threads when she was cast and then for the first movie when she was referred to as MJ. this caused a lot of the initial backlash and people ran with it.
i already said i disagreed with it, but it's definitely one of the main reasons why there is hate for her and her character.

I liked it though I thought there were some parts that were just silly
I liked it a lot too - it agree with the silly though. I guess the Mysterio speech to his fellow former Stark employees was the silliest - felt sorta like the old movie Spider-Man days of Green Goblin and Doc Ock giving speeches.

Gotta day one more thing about the movie:
Marisa Tomei is 54 . . . and beautiful.
