Venezuela is not a utopia. Not sure if you knew that.

I did but the show treated it that way. In fact, many politicians and actors did too at one time. Here is an articleabout it.

No they did not you definitely missed some of the jokes and subtext

When April goes to Venezuela at the end she and the property she is at is surrounded by armed guards. The rich need armed guards to keep the poor public away

Part of the joke was that they were elite communist officials but could throw any peasant in jail for anything they wanted.

The title of their committee was the Committee to Humiliate and Shame America. They took $30,000.00 to one small town and considered that a victory.

The Office = Crazy people in a normal city. Explained as a documentary.
Parks and Rec = Crazy people in a crazy city. Never explained.

Both work well. Along with Community, these are my trifecta.

Parks and Rec is the office in 30 Rocks world.

I really love those truely ungrounded sitcoms.

30 Rock
P&R
Community
Brooklyn 99
Scrubs

Tom is a completely selfish poonhound in season 1-3 and by the end he's still the same character,

I gotta disagree with that. Early he definitely presents the vibe of a player, but by the end he desperatley wants to be loved and in a serious committed relationship. he also matures professionally after so many failed business ventures that it humbles him, which he then uses to advance his career further.

This. I always took it as a joke and not a serious representation of Venezuela as a utopia. Thought that was pretty obvious considering the episode.

sorry... that was a bit contradictory, i agree. he's still a bit of a whiny player (when his restaurant fails,) hitting on every woman (jokingly( by the end.

he's obviously a better person, just that he's still always hustling and flirting with every woman all the way up till he gets married.

Scrubs

I really need to find some old DVDs of Scrubs. The current streaming has replaced the soundtrack due to license expiration. The music is a huge part of the feel and tone of the show.

I’d put season 4 of P&R up against any other season of sitcom TV. It’s perfection.

I started my 3rd rewatch of this because of this thread.

I think that “practice date” in S2 is when it really takes off. Not so much Anna and Leslie doing the practice date, but everyone else trying to dunk on each other with their unknown facts. You start getting into Donna, Ron, Tom, Jerry, etc.’s characters. It becomes less entirely about Leslie and Anne and more into the rest of the cast from this point.

Best underrated lines/sequence of the series:

Jerry:hey Mark, a little birdie told me that you have an unpaid parking ticket.

Mark: that’s funny because, a little birdie told me that your adopted mom got arrested for marijuana possession.

Jerry: What?

Mark: Bet you didn’t know that!

Jerry: I didn’t know I was adopted.

Mark: oh no. Jerry, I didn’t know.

Jerry: I really didn’t want to play.

Tom: he really baited you with that unpaid parking ticket.

And it’s absolutely never revisited.

Gone back and forth between Friends, the Office and Parks.

Parks I feel is superior. Every character is great…minus Ann.

But it’s just so good and gets better every rewatch.

This might be my favorite show. It’s up there.

I whorls forever love it alone for painting an unwavering libertarian in a positive light.

I disagree. She plays the straight character great, unlike Mark. Imagine an episode like "The Fight" without Ann.

mark sucked but I don't necessarily blame him or anyone specifically since the show was just getting started and hadn' found its footing yet. He was just so BORING, dreadfully dull. To the show's credit, they realiezd that he stunk and got rid of him so good on them.

The only truly awful character in the entire show was the screaming flamer in the final season. Absolutely no idea what they were thinking there.
