It came across as a feature length student film focused exclusively on primal sexual horrors with a lot of effort taken to make the sound and set design disgusting to hear and painful to look at.

You must watch some damn-high quality student films. That sound design is masterful in its uniquely off-putting characteristic. I didn't meet any film school kids who could do anything like it.

That said, I get why some love it. I can't manage more than respect.

Same. I was ready to start talking about kill list again.

But seriously, we need a “best of” list dealing with cults. It’s a favorite genre of mine.

unintentionally i've discovered i like them a lot, too

i need to do my documentary thread first

I mean this train wreck has such a cult following that there is a movie about the making of this movie.

This list is missing something. The Boondock Saints has to be in the top 50 right?

I actually refuse to believe there is anybody out there that truly, honestly likes this movie.

It was Stanley Kubrick’s favorite movie. Made the crew of The Shining watch it to get everyone in the mood.

OK, reread through the list, and this film not being on the list is fricking criminal. Really should be in the Top 5 since it was a box office bomb, wasn’t liked at the time, and with new cuts was seen as one of the greatest films of all time and spawned one of the greatest sequels of all time which was also a box office bomb: Blade Runner.

Seriously, how did that not make this list? At worst Top 10 since it actually really influenced cinema years after its release.

Just reread the list and realized the Wachowskis' Speed Racer isn't included.

WTF.

Have seen 29 of 50.
Haven't seen these:
quote:

The Wicker Man
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Kids
La Haine
Akira
Stranger Than Paradise
The Raid: Redemption
They Live
Fire Walk With Me
The Room
Evil Dead II

After seeing the list, and reading about each movie, the one I want to see first is Stranger Than Paradise.
Any recommendations on others I should see?

See Solarbabies

That's cult.

Time Rider is cult.

I guess I have a different opinion of cult because The Thing ain't it.

There's a lot of beloved mainstream movies on this list.

Cult is under the radar beloved by a small subgroup of movie nerds.

I regretted telling my dad to watch Field of Dreams. He's 89. Dudes his age never lament over the relationship they had with their dads, or how they were with us. He just woke up, went to work, came home to a hot meal, and ruled his castle. He did coach my Little League team, was our scoutmaster, and took us to LSU games. Probably should thank him for some of that stuff soon.
